I see you agreed with me all along. That video is the stuff i was refering to. No vocals, no complex samples or anything that will draw your attention from the beat. I dunno where you got the drugs-part in my argument, i wasn't including drugs in my post at all.
But i don't agree this music is for "tripping" (if you are refering to hallicugenic stuff), because it makes you numb/tired/bodily passive. It's definitely music for uppers and not downers.

Btw, i love Goa Gil. I listen to his compilations and mixes each morning when i take the bus to work. I'm such a loveable idiot

Wonder why I don't take drugs on a regular basis but I still like psy trance. By your logic this is impossible...

As much as I love psy, I understand that sentiment completely.

I feel the same way about happy hardcore, gabba etc.

your saying all psy sounds the same because of the basslines and kickdrum...

so by your logic nirvana and the beatles are exaclty the same because they use electric guitars and have male vocalists.

psy for me - i can take a bit in small doses - like the proggier stuff mainly

but yeah noone said it ever died to my knowledge

I agree most psytrance is like that and that Goa trance is in general better. Do you still like goa trance from 1993-1998ish? I'll also add a +1 to the sentiment that you don't need to be on drugs to enjoy the music but seriously music made for people on acid/weed is 100x better than music made for people on alcohol.

Anyway, so no. You didn't used to listen to psytrance. You used to listen to goa trance. Which is in general probably more acessable.

Hi I'm 14 years old and I've never done drugs yet prefer trippey music to teh boring house/other (Although I do enjoy a bit of D'n'b every now and then) . Seriously dude that has to be the stupidest post ever. I'd highly not recomend torrenting the distance to goa compilation to see that goa trance (the stuff you used to listen to) is not the same thing as full on psy (the stuff you think every psytrance track is). Since there seems to be pretty much no decent tracks on youtube (not forgetting the shitty quality that'll make things sound worse anyway) heres some recomended mixes of decent psy for anyone interesting:
http://www.cybernetika.de/mixed_by_cybernetika_-_warpcore_III.mp3 (dark stuff... quite acessable and generally more melodic/funky as well as more atmospheric than the full on stuff)
DJ eccentric-psycho therapy[can't find link] (morning stuff thats uplifting with lots of melody... not trippey at all though and the mix has a great intro/flow)
[Shameless plug] http://files.filefront.com/Welcome+to+Goa+week+Two+Agmp3/;9051290;/fileinfo.html
My most downloaded and also best mix. Goa trance stuff though mind you... certainly a lot more acessable/melodic (and imo better) than psy in general.

Quick we need a post from the definitive source of how good a genre is!!!

NOT EVERYONE LIKES PSY TRANCE. To these people, it sounds all the same. get over it. Yea i can listen to 1000 psy tracks and differentiate them and categorize them further into sub genres of psy, but at the end of that long painful day, i will still say it all sounds very similiar, much more so than within other genres. its extremely formulaic, just like trance in general.

i hear the same crap from psy trance enthusiasts, they all say you dont need drugs to enjoy it. this is true, this is the same argument from enthusiasts of many other forms of dance music. but i think some types of dance music relies more heavily on being under the influence than others. it gets to the point where music is made specifically to get a reaction when on a certain drug, like it was scientifically designed for a certain drug. there is a lot of rave tracks that, really, you need to be on mdma to appreciate, simply because of the frequencies and patterns used. and there is music really made specifically to get a reaction when on acid, shrooms, 2ci, or anything else that cracks the pineal gland and bridges subconcious with concious. the furthest end of that spectrum would be the classic "acid" genres, then would come goa, and from there elements of mainstreamishness like prog psy, but its still all acid music and it all sounds very similiar and formulaic when you're not tripping. heres some examples of classic acid, which when i played in a psytrance set in the past would get a bigger reaction and blow your mind way more than psytrance would, and shits all over the other youtube examples in this thread (imo):

and

http://www.discogs.com/release/56145

not classic, but my favorite acid track of all time:

"acid planes" on: http://www.discogs.com/release/751474

when you play this stuff, and then play psytrance, psytrance sounds cheesy and watered down, its like "acid light". if we're gonna trip then let's fucking trip goddamn it, lets not pussy foot around with the hippy guitar plucking or orchestral sounds or whatever else layerings on the real "meat" of a trippy track. its like acid techno artists trying to be artistic and make it a legitamit artform rather than just a scientific meditation tool. but make no mistake, this IS drug music specific to trippy drugs and it does all sound similiar when you've never tripped or you're not tripping. if you say otherwise you are just reliving your past trip experiences when you're listening to it sober. and if you want to lie and say you've never tripped before but you enjoy it sober (like goa gil and others) then you're an idiot, and if you actually have never tripped and enjoy it then its just a simple matter of you having shit for brains.

What a load of absolute crap.

This is basically the same bullshit that a lot of rock fans use to dismiss the whole of EDM, recast to fit your intent of dismissing a single genre within EDM.

Well I don't know anyone from there so I can tell but idiots are present in all places around the world. Too bad most of them use the Internet as their main playground.

P.S. Listen to the mix of Cybernetika which DarkArbiter posted a link to. That is good psy stuff.
