saw series had so much potential but i couldn't get past the horrible acting. it's one thing to see horrible acting in all the 80s horror films, but not today. i was laughing more than anything while watching Saw.

Wrong Turn, ultra cheesy horror movie how I like them.

quote:
Chris Finn (Desmond Harrington) is on his way to a job interview and is driving through the mountains of West Virginia. There is then a chemical spill on the road, so being short on time, he decides to take a different route, an abandoned dirt road in the middle of nowhere. He then by accident crashes into a car sitting in the middle of the road. He then meets a group of friends on a hiking trip who include Jessie (Eliza Dushku) whom where stranded on the road. Two people stay at the car, and another group goes for help, only to find a sinister cabin nesteled in the West Virgina woods, that is home to a trio of cannibalistic mountain men horribly disfigured from years of in-breeding. They then make a mad dash for their lives through out the woods, only hoping to make it out alive.

"Rosemary's Baby", "IT", "The Shining" (yeah 2 of these are written by Stephen King although i don't like Stephen King a lot these days) are some that came to mind.

A "Nightmare on Elm Street" is als cult, featuring a teenager Johny Debb.

As for "The Thing", it isa classic film. As far as i know it was inspired by H. P. Lovecraft's "At The Mountains of Madness" novel.

I guess that Ridley Scott's "Alien" is also a classic sci-fi horror movie?

"Lost Highway" and "Mulholland Drive" are great weird films, lots of psychoanalytic ideas, with the subconscious and stuff, has anyone seen the latest Lynch movie?

the trailer rocks too.

anyone else got any they think are better?

Yeah, The Thing is definitely a great movie.
I've watched it around 5 times, enjoyed it every time.
Same goes for the PC game.

Event Horizon

"Where we're going, you don't need eyes to see."

Agreed, second part of the movie was creepy as hell.
Great fusion of horror and sci-fi.

I didn't really find it scary, it's more of a psychological movie.
But the feeling of isolation is definitely there and gives an edge to the whole movie.

Fuck the american version.

To be honest, I prefer the American version.
Maybe it's because my expectations for Ringu were too high.
Ringu didn't scare me at all and American version at least had 2-3 scary scenes.

It had a few scenes that gave me chills.
Like the one in which her (boy)friend (whatever) watches over her, falls asleep, wakes up and sees her in that weird position lying on the floor.
Other than that, it wasn't too scary.
I prefer the director's cut of original movie.

Suicide Club was a pretty twisted Japanese film that was pretty interesting as well. Here's the opening scene.

This has the potential to become the most awesome film in ages.

Good choice on The Thing. There aren't many horror movies I enjoy enough to watch more than once or twice, but that's one of them.

Is The Fly horror? For some reason that's one of the creepiest movies for me.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the original Alien for sci-fi-horror hybrids.

[Edit: I see PETRAN mentioned it, nevermind.]

Lost Highway rules, but I'm not sure if it's horror. The pale dude is pretty unsettling, though.

Orphanage was a real disappointment for me, too. Pan's labyrinth was much better.

I'm not a big horror fan but some asian films are really good (although the plot is a bit similar at times; small girls etc.) Miike has shot some good films. 'Chakushin ari' for example.

What it is with those goddamned US remakes of Asian movies. I'm not saying they're all bad, but can't these idiots devote their time and money to making an original movie?! There's nothing more useless that a remake of a movie that's just 2 years old.
