hmm noone has mentioned Fahrenheit 451 yet? I finished reading it recently, very well written book, considering it was written in the 1950's, and its managed to capture exactly what society is/is becoming.

Anyways I guess my favorite (right now) would have to be James Clavell's Shogun. Its a huge book, like 1100 pages of tiny ass print, but its an awesome book and manages to stay entertaining throughout the whole thing.

Honorable mentions:

The Hobbit/LoTR
Most any Tom Clancey novel...

Robert Jordan! I can't say enough good things about his books. The Wheel of Time Series is completely amazing. This is the best epic since LOTR imo. Books just keep getting better.

Favorite Author: R.A. Salvatore. He's another fantasy author. He writes the bets battle sequences I have ever read and his characters are so detailed and memorable. All of his Forgotten Realms books are great, but my favorite series is: The Demon War Trilogy. Check him out!

Great to see so many other TA's are into reading, it seems to be a dying form of entertainment for most, but IMHO a book beats the hell out of most anything on TV (well, other than a Leafs game, but it's summer now... )

I'm into a ton of different stuff, so I have a lot of favourites...in no particular order:

* American Gods & Sandman by Neil Gaiman
* Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky
* Slapstick by Vonnegut (actually, anything by Vonnegut)
* Cabrini Green: In Words and Pictures
* The Holocaust by Martin Gilbert
* Dark Tower series by Stephen King
* Junky & Queer by William S. Burroughs
* Anything by Hubert Selby, Jr.
* The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe

That should be quite enough I'd think, time to go finish Foster Hewitt's "Hockey Night in Canada" (circa 1962) book

this book is truely amazing, it was written in 1921! Its so ahead of its time:
- ppl have numbers for names
- bldgs are all glass (no privacy)
- and oh ya its got sex in it too!

I dont think anyone mention this one, its really funny:
John Kennedy Toole, A Confederacy of Dunces

the story behind this is also amazing. the author couldnt get it published, shortly after committed sucide, his mother found it in the attic and finally convinced someone to publish it.
