From my experience, I wouldn't say 'as stable'. I did work in a mac store for several months and in my time there I would see more crashes within a week than I ever have in my life on any XP system - and that wasn't just on the demos. These weren't user-induced crashes, they were just 'crash for no apparent reason' crashes.

And personally, I've never had anything crash on my macbook whatsoever. I've lol'd a few times (especially when there's a firmware update and the little window suggests you get a pen and paper to write all of the instructions down on how to update the firmware on an OS that 'just works'), but I've never had anything crash for no apparent reason.

We were a pretty tight staff so I knew pretty much everything that got installed on them. Strangely though, some of them never crashed and others often did. I didn't really get the opportunity to investigate but I have a hunch some of the macbook crashes were heat related.

That's been a BIG problem for them.

When my Macbook wouldn't start for software reasons, searching through online forums for help showed an absolute bevy of panicked threads relating to failing fans and overheating.

Funny story about that (and I'm pretty sure I must've posted it here before); Our cash register at that store was an imac and we sometimes used it to demonstrate certain applications to clients. We had XP running simultaneousely and when the clients weren't looking, we'd hotkey back into XP because our register program - a very basic database sort of app - would constantly crash on the mac OS.

Idoru's shuts down because of a faulty temp sensor.

Then why the fuck isn't one widespread yet

I'm not being a fanboy. It's just so ignorant to say there is no market share for mac users.

Isn't what widespread?

The PC is quite a venerable and stable machine. If you were to put Apple in the same position as Microsoft, I am 100% positive they would go through A LOT of the same problems that Microsoft does with Windows. Apple doesn't have to deal with THOUSANDS of different configurations, 5 different bios manufacturers, 3 different I/O manufacturers, 10 different chipsets active at the same moment, 20 different video card manufacturers (although there are only 2 actual chip providers), 2 different CPUs, 100 different cd-type media drive manufacturers, 100 different LCD brands, etc. So much of this "Mac is more stable than PC" bullshit is propagated by the fanbois and Apple themselves.

Please give me 1 REAL reason to get a Mac over a PC. I want an MBP as I have told you, but lately I have seen some of the new laptops and I am being steered away yet again. I still can't justify the $1000 premium to get it. I will take a shorter shittyer warranty, as I am a nerd anyways, to save $1000. That could buy me a lot of other stuff over and above the MBP.

You want one because all the pro dj use apple ! Apple has its fair share of problem's. I had to do a mod to my laptop to fix it from a faulty chip(known problem with the video chip solider points on the system board. The laptop was died for a year untill I found an online guide to fix it and apple will not extand the warrenty for this known problem.

a mac virus that would destroy us all.

And these reasons (aside from OSX being the most pain-free and stable system that EYE have used in my life) are the ones that got me to switch.

Hardware is fantastic. (illuminated keyboard/built in camera/touch-pad advances)
Apple geniuses provide the best service I've ever had in my life.
