sounds like it was pretty random.. but that being said... he was carrying around a big ass knife on him, so maybe he did "plan" on doing something to someone and that kid just ended up being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The attacker must be some mentally incapacitated person - otherwise I wouldn't be able to explain to myself how this can happen. If it was a revenge killing or something of the sort, I don't think it would be arranged this way...

It's a very brutal incident, though.

I imagine that the "true" (defendable) cases of insanity must be backed up with solid medical evidence in court (such as several MRI scans, evaluations from neurologists, court-appointed expert witnesses)... at least it should work that way. A claim of insanity though is always a great attempt at alibi for criminals who commit extremely violent or gruesome acts - or rather for their defence lawyers - independent of whether it's valid or not, sadly...

This is up there with Pickton and Bernardo in terms of the WTF factor. I guess it's more sickening because we've all been there, napped on planes, trains or buses without a second thought. With the Pickton story, I never thought "wow, I was just prostituting myself on the lower east side, that could have been me." So this hits close to home.

Yeah, I've never been so horrified as I am reading that story - I had to stop.
