The other thing is that a lot of the new rap that is coming out is all the same lyrically. I mean, how many times can you talk about your benz, your gucci, the amount of money you make, the amount of drugs you deal, and the amount of people you kill. Back in 90's, this was a new message from the streets (think NWA - Fuck the Police), but now, everyone saying that stuff. I think cats like Lupe Fiasco are the future. He';s got mad skillz, interesting and thought provoking lyrics and good beats. Again, this is all just my opinion.

i was pretty heavy into rap in the early-mid 90s. stuff like sauve house records, rap-a-lot, and jive. awww how i miss the days of smokin blunts and jammin ugk in my geo *wipes tear* i guess i like some newer hip hop/rap stuff but its few and far between.

We all have a very narrow view of EDM comming from America. In the rest of the world EDM rules, not rap. Tiesto pvd and avb are EURO MTV pop whores. Tiesto did the opening ceremony for the Olympics for god sake

yes, we are exposed to rap the most in this country. but i do NOT agree that we like what we are exposed to the most. Because I've always preferred alternates to the usual mainstream. However the argument if only EDM was left, everybody would listen to it, that might be agreeable, but obviously its pointless whether it is or isn't. but the point that we tend to listen to what is thrown at us the most may be true sometimes, but in the end, even if we have genre's like rap forced down our throats here in america, there are still heavy followings for different genres, like classical, edm, screaming shit, etc. Each person has a preference regardless of the norms around them. I will admit that these norms DO affect the weaker of heart (those unwilling to be different), but then there's the people like us who know what we love, and that's why we belong to a forum to talk about the music we love so much. I don't see any "rapaddict.com", albeit i'm sure something of the sort exists, but nobody seems to have the emotional connection to hip hop as many claim to have to edm.

as far as rapaddict.com there are TONS of sites like that. all hip hop, rap godfathers, TONS of websites dedicated to latest in rap news, beefs, arrests, etc. There are also a shitload of websites where you can download for free the latest mixtapes and pre-album hype.

As far as what you said noah. about armin PVD and tiesto being MTV euro whores, I highly doubt that. I mean think about it... I'm pretty confident that the music industry in europe as far as pop music goes, plays music on the radio that is popular by the peoples choice, rather than what music execs deem popular. ALthough I could be wrong

as far as tiesto spinning the olympics, I dunno if that makes him a 'sell out' or makes him an ambassador to EDM. Either way, even though people always hate on the guy, what ive always said is that the more people that hate on you, the better off you are. It means that you're doing real well. cause no one hates on a bum. they only hate on stars.

also, at the MTV europe VMA's it was Justice getting harassed by Kanye. I dont seem to remember anything about armin and pvd... although Guetta has been winning awards lately... maybe your boy from France is the music whore...

i saw guetta spin at pacha in the spring... my man spun untill the lights were on and the guards were tryin to kick people out, then he spun some straight bob marly. Talk about loving music for the music. I gained tons of respect and stopped callin him a pop star and began calling him a musician. Guetta is on his cheesy ass grind cuz he loves it, not because he wants to sell music. And that is just in line with what ravi aka the vza aka yaaaagh (hahaha) about loving all music for the music. trueth

DJing, bboying, graffiti, and the MC were the four components. That shit is cool and appealed on a large scale to many many people. Even though it was born out of the angst of urban life in the late 70's and 80's, it represented a new and sometimes forbidden culture to non-afro american youth in the 90's, Towards the late 90's is where I see it turning pop... not pop like Michael Jackson was pop, but pop like Brittney Spears pop. Basically, because it was already popular, record execs knew they could manufacture and sell a product, call it music, and push it on the radio to teens and tweens. i think the reason EDM never took off like that in America was because it had the stigma of being exclusively underground. Also, lets face it, a lot of people in the 'rave' scene of old were a bunch of wierdos. Plus the fact that the US is overall very homophobic and hateful of gays, and EDM has in some cases been linked to being gay music (my friends called me a fag for listening to trance, until i gave them pills... next thing I knew they were crawling on the floor with pacifiers in theirs mouths thanking me). PLUS, the whole drug-relation with EDM throws people off as well... those are the reasons why I feel like rap music is more popular in the US NOW... in todays society, with the whole concept that we are living in a 'global village' taking off, I see electronic dance music moving more forward into the main stream... in big cities and college campus' at least. As the world becomes more connected through the internet and the economy, I see EDM rising in popularity. Some people might say they dont want that. They want their EDM to stay underground. They dont want DJ's to 'sell-out'. They dont want people who arent obsessed with the music listening. I say fuck that. If people like the music they like it. period. once again... thats my opinion. hate it or love it. you just read it.

The real reason why people haven't like David Guetta is because his spinning was really for couple of years. Its kinda unfair to be successful when he's train wrecked real bad. Also he always use to play tracks twice which may turn away some. This year though hes got much better and has expand on variety
