That's disappointing. This is what I was scared of happening when Z started to do their live to airs from guv. I was hoping it'd be a night from Guv on Z103.5 but instead it's a night from Guv with Z music on Z103.5

And I know that there has to be a certain amount of Canadian content.

The 35% cancon rule ends at midnight from what I remember

This wont affect Marks TL. The fact that he is a Canadian DJ performing live on air is enough to satisfy the regulations.

You guys are all such drama queens.

either way, Mark Oliver is GREAT DJ and a great guy!

I agree. Having frequented the Guv for years and years, I've never failed to have good moments in that place, week after week, when he was on decks.

That is false. To satisfy cancon regulations a track must qualify through the MAPL system. If the dj being Canadian made any difference then almost every Canadian station would be able to use that loop hole as well. The fact that it's a live to air dj doesn't change anything.

quote:

The MAPL System

The MAPL* system refers to the four elements in the Radio Regulations used to qualify musical selections as Canadian. These elements were selected, as part of the Canadian content regulations, following an extensive public hearing process. The MAPL system is designed to stimulate all components of the Canadian music industry and to be as simple as possible for the industry to implement and regulate.
Objectives

The primary objective -- a cultural one -- is to encourage increased exposure of Canadian musical performers, lyricists and composers to Canadian audiences.

The secondary objective -- an industrial one -- is to strengthen the Canadian music industry, including both the creative and production components.
How does it work?

1. To qualify as 'Canadian content' a musical selection must generally fulfill at least two of the following conditions:

M (music) -- the music is composed entirely by a Canadian.
A (artist) -- the music is, or the lyrics are, performed principally by a Canadian.
P (production) -- the musical selection consists of a live performance that is

(i) recorded wholly in Canada, or
(ii) performed wholly in Canada and broadcast live in Canada.

L (lyrics) -- the lyrics are written entirely by a Canadian.

2. There are four special cases where a musical selection may qualify as Canadian content.

* The musical selection was recorded before January 1972 and meets one of the above conditions.

* It is an instrumental performance of a musical composition written or composed by a Canadian.

* It is a performance of a musical composition that a Canadian has composed for instruments only.

* The musical selection was performed live or recorded after September 1, 1991 and, in addition to meeting the criterion for either artist or production, a Canadian who has collaborated with a non-Canadian receives at least half of the credit for both music and lyrics.

it has nothing to do with MAPL. Its a live performance by a canadian artist. Try reading the regs.

I've talked to a live-to-air dj before and he said he still had to do 35% cancon

I think that live performances only apply to bands since djs are still playing pre-recorded music and thus MAPL comes into effect

I said I find it funny. Both new threads by very new members & both basically putting local To. dj’s down. I could be wrong & one may not have anything to do with the other but its still a bit funny... at least to me.

Anything to make Vince smile and laugh is amazin!

then just pad the entire set with deadmau5 tracks is the obvious answer.

MO is at his best when not at Guv....if Guv is the only place you've heard MO then you are not doing yourself any favours.
