how the fuck can you guys afford to fly first class?
Well, within the US flying F is actually pretty reasonable. The product isn't that great but I've done several trips to the West Coast from the East Coast for around $950 return, and on proper airlines; United, AA etc. Not some BS like AirTran's Business Class where they don't even feed you! The wife and I took a trip to Hawaii last year and that was only $1500 per person return from the East Coast on American Airlines in F. When economy was $900 it is a pretty easy decision to make. That $600 extra split over 20hrs of flying is only $30/hr!
Internationally it is a different ball park. The product is MUCH better but several times the price. You're talking $20k+ return LAX-LHR-LAX on BA in First.
Earlier in the year my wife and I travelled on one of these tickets: http://www.oneworld.com/ow/air-trav...eworld-explorer
Our tickets were $12k per person for 20 flights in First Class (well four were in Business Class because it was shorthaul and First wasn't offered) which is very good value for money. Otherwise I'll fly business class internationally as it is much more affordable, my usual airline, BA, still has flat beds in business class which are very comfortable and my top tier status with them gets me use of the First check-in and lounges.
As for the lounges, I get access to them regardless of which class of travel. I hold top tier elite status in two different airline alliances; my British Airways Gold card gets me into First Class lounges when travelling with Oneworld alliance (though BA let me in their lounges regardless of who I fly), my bmi Gold card gets me into business class lounges when flying Star Alliance airlines, and my Amex card gets me into Skyteam lounges on the rare occasion I fly a Skyteam airline.

Well I've heard good things about the Canadian Affair/Thomas Cook flights. Apparently, and unusually for a charter, they have 35" pitch throughout economy so you might get lucky.
I can understand the need for premium economy, I'm 6ft and ended up on a ski charter a few years back from Lyon to Gatwick that was the legal minimum 28" pitch. Ow! I don't do economy longhaul
There's 5 possible planes with the 2
TC -
boeing 757-200 with 35" economy
airbus a330-200s, both with 33" econ but one has an extra row of seats
Air Transat have A330 and an A310 both with 32" in economy.
The only thing what annoys me is neither tell you how much more you'd get in prem econ, which i'd love to know simply because you can then work out how much more worth it it is for the price.
Have to say I'm tempted to fly to vancouver then get the train through the rockies to calgary & a coach upto edmonton, just to see some of the sights, albeit very briefly.

i went to dubai for new years 2006, Its unlike any other city in the world, Its one of the most ultrad mordern, ultra cosmopolitan cities in the world, in terms of architecture and the ppl. I alwys thogut being a Muslim country, they would have all kinds of restrictions, but to my surprise, there where hardly any women to be seen in veils, i thought finding alcohol would be a prob but ppl there drink like crazy, we even went to a strip club in dubai, prostitution is there on a very large scale, Cars on the road'd i dont even wanna talk about those they had 7 series,5 series, audi's, hummers like we see corollas in America, Plus lamborgini's ferraris etc.
Architecturally they have some insane stuff we can only see in cartoons. Plus i saw a whole one hour documenty about dubai on discovery, Tentacle shaped building, rotating tower, Under water hotel(hydropolis), 4 of the worlds tallest buildings, Indoor seeking, Restaurant made of ice, Palm Island, the world island,Burj al arab the worlds only 7star hotel, the world biggest arc bridge and biggest fountain are under construction. but too bad they use labor exported from india and pakistan and pay them like $7 a day.

Especially being that I don't have a job that pays 150k+ (as it would appear from how often you fly first/business class) and therefore, can not afford that.

Why buy a Mercedes when I can buy a Kia?
Why buy a Patek Philippe when you can get a Timex?
Why stay at the Peninsula when you can stay in a youth hostel?
First Class internationally is a quality experience, one I enjoy and one I value. I can't sleep in economy, I don't even find it comfortable, in fact I'd say it is miserable for more than a couple of hours! That's why. I don't expect everyone to justify it, that's why you'll find around a dozen seats in the front of the plane and about 200 in the back. When I'm going on holiday getting there is part of the experience for me. The thought of having to cram myself into an economy seat for 12hrs on the way home takes the shine off the last few days of the trip.
There are some things we all value in life and others can't justify. I can't see why anyone would spend $10,000 on some rims for their car, that has absolutely zero value for me.

I value quality very much, but I can usually just deal with flying a couple (read: max of 5hrs) hours on a flight a little cramped instead of paying 1800 for a flight that would usually cost me 600 in economy.
