Full Review
We left early friday afternoon in our rented Nissan Murano. On the way down I got some video of Rafal and TDizzle singing & dancing to Montel Jordan - This is how we do it, total goofball video. with there approval ill post it.
Started to get bored, and noticed there was a aux input to the stereo system, so for almost the entire trip thereafter mixed music the way there.
When we got there, there were a few things going on that night, and quite honestly, Fridays look to be more busy than Saturdays on Hollywood Blvd. I must have counted 12 clubs on the strip? Lots of women in scantily dressed tube dresses, black pumps and shaved legs. Didn't really know where to go, so we all basically went each seperate way, Tommy and Rafal went to a live taping of MadTV I wish I would have went to, me and Lynn stayed back at the hotel and rested. Rizo and everyone else went to Droog. Mescha our little doggy came with us, so she kept us company. I got some popeye's chicken and just called it a night watching some movie on HBO. +'s was the weather, a steady 60 degrees throughout the night.
Saturday went to tour a bit around Hollywood, caught a couple glimpses of the Hollywood sign and Beverly Hills. We ended up somewhere eating at Chili's for lunch. Afterwards we went to check out Getty Museum, meet up with Taj and the twins, Andreiux, and Adriana came through to hang out. On the tram ride up, the car smelled of weed. A incident with one of the guards there asked us if we won the lotto, if we didnt we shouldnt be touching a piece of art that was in the garden. When he turned around Adriana and Lynn touched it anyways, and we snapped the pic. What an ass.
Afterwards went to dinner at Kung Pow Kitty, It reminded me a little of Blowfish Sushi here on Santana Row. Great food and drinks, especially the happy hour food. They give you alot for like 3 bucks per entree. Gehzumteufel was there early, and came over and greeted me and Lynn (Awesome to finally meet ya). -'s of this place were that they kept playing the killers.
After the dinner proceeded back to the hotel to get ready and find out where we were going to get to Circus. Going from the hotel to the club kinda reminded me of going to Ruby Skye. We were only 4 minutes away, so it didnt take very long. When we got there, we all thought Arena was Circus, until one of the Sec Guards told us to turn around cause it was behind us.
"There's the entrance" I said to myself, since seeing it online a few times before and in some past pics. Gathered my things and went in, everyone else stayed back in line to get in.
As we walked up, to the right an outside bar, and to the back it looked like a patio of some sort, there was food smell in the air, just didnt know what it was until later on in the night. I noticed people bringing their drinks out to the patio. Fuck I wish we could do that in SF, would be more social, especially with the heater lamps outside to keep warm.
Getting there into the room I noticed there was a Allen & Heath 464 there. Never mixed on this mixer before. Looked pretty cool, and the setup for the booth was nice. Very similar to the 62, The entire booth setup reminded me of the upstairs at or the front booth at 1015. The CDJ's were cool since they were the Pioneer DVJ 1000's. Also for the setup was a DVD player, and 2 Denon MP3 CDJ's.
After setting up, Taj showed me around the club. Had a smoke outside and ran into Billy, who stayed and talked to us a bit before heading out to get Alain. I think later on I met Xenpro, and his girlfriend. Outside I met Darin Epsilon too. (Awsome meeting you guys too) My friends from Vegas showed up, which was cool.
Circus mainroom is awsome. I love the setup and where everything is placed. Lazers, and shiny Discoballs. Above us were inflatable objects and strobelights. Its really cool the way the setup is for the lazers. When the lazer would fire, it would bounce off one discoball and hit another, and another, so what would happen is a lazer effect throughout the club. Much like how our lazer used to work...The only thing I didnt like is how far you had to walk to go to the bathroom in the main. I absolutely love how there were other rooms at the club, and how you can pull back the curtain to make the mainroom a HUGE place to be.
Gil had already started playing and the mainroom was filling up. Early on noticed half naked guys, and ravers. Got recognized by a few ravers which was pretty cool. Also, ravers in LA vs SF dress a little different. Their not adorned with a shitload of candy everywhere.
Lyndsay started playing, and our room was building nicely. John played a killer set and his energy behind the decks was awsome. That was until Taj got on and killed our room.
What was funny was there was an effect like we have at 1015 when the headliner gets on and rooms clear out. Everyone that was in the room when John was playing suddenly appeeared in front of mainroom booth when Taj got on. The next thing that happened was pretty awsome.
Alain left him right where he needed to be, and Taj took it to another level. Everyone who looked stand offish started to approach the front of the booth closer and closer. Peoples heads started to bob and I noticed alot of smiling faces throughtout. throughout the set, people asked me and TSG who that Dj was, if he was the replacement headliner, and saying things like hes pretty awsome and plays really good sh*t. I think you can hear me talking to someone during the recording. TSG took my handheld field lazer, and went around the club with it. I got Taj signing the Nikita sign, with the what said "Love Circus, Dj Taj".
Alongside the video I shot of Taj, Bouncing from room to room, earlier on I got some video of Lyndsay, Gil, Alain, and towards the end Fei-Fei.I have to go back and re-edit. Hopefully Ill have it up for download soon. I still got lots of other videos to edit.
My set was good, but still felt the after effects of Taj in the main. Overall I dropped alot of good tunes, and ended with Above & Beyonds - No one on Earth (San Francisco Remix).
Props to Gil and Fei Fei for my first experience at Circus. TSG for showing me around and keepin me company throughout the night... Sorry I didnt get to say goodbye to everyone, Everyone was pretty toasty and layed out from those greatful dead drinks. (those are bomb) Thanks again you guys, YOU ROCK. Definitely cannot wait to come back again!
P.S. The food there at Circus was bomb, but dont ever try to compete with Billy in an eating contest, he will eat you under the table! I recommend the 3.00 quesallida! If Rafal didnt puke on the way home, then we would have went all the way to Fresno as we hit bakersfield on the 119! I musta took a wrong turn somewhere!
Next time Ill have to check out Vanguard and Avalon.
