I love the "it's internetz, not real life" response. There is no distinction between the two, and this is something I know far better than most.

It isn't as if I, or anyone else who's been in any similar position, chose to "let it near" them - in fact, I've really done nothing except for not bother to add a former drug dealer as a "friend" on a social networking website, and have a conversation with one of my closest friends about how said former dealer is fucked off and insulted that I won't be his friend on a social networking website.

I don't really see how choice factors into this at all, but in the end it isn't as if this is going to drastically alter the circumstances of my life. It's just a nuisance.
