Like most niche genres, Trance covers a very narrow bandwidth of musical ideas and has a definate style that defines the genre.Some synths/instruments/fx suit certain sounds which suit certain genres so i think certain tools are definately more suited for certain genres. |
You just totally missed the point didn't you? I said I don't believe in genres. So I don't set out to create a certain genre. Do you? Do you seriously believe that synth's are pigeonholed into certain genres? Do you actually produce? Because a synth at the end of the day is some oscillators and a bunch of filters in some configuration. That is genre non-specific.

You sir, are the next lord of bass.

Theres two sides to this coin ;
a) Limitation is good, it forces you to find a solution (ie make a sound), instead of just thinking "sod it" and finding a preset on a vst or other and using that.
b) If you are using reason, there is always the option of rewiring into a host so you can use VST's.

i dont need vsts, i have all the options ill ever need in the included instruments in reason and probably also in logic in the future. only thing i need is more efficient ways of doing stuff, both production-wise and cpu-wise but also hwo to back stuff up, installing-procedure etc etc. Though im planning to rewire with logic some day to see whether i can get the mixdowns better. if i ever need a vst it will be eqs+compressors.
