First of all Houstin is in the good ol' republic of Texas (a country of its own), it is the 4th largest city in the US after Chicago but don't let that fool you. Houston is more like a the southern capital of the U.S Attracting a majority of (yea, i'll use the term) mexicans.

Ok, New York City, if you have never been there is polar opposite. New York is very multi-cultural, diverse, educated, compelling, intense, luxurious, bohemian, it has a life of its own. you can't compare new york even with chicago and people love to compare them all the time.

you missed the point completely.

i was being sarcastic enrique.

Agreed.

I talked about leaving Ontario for the longest time but always found "reasons" not to do it (eg. money, timing etc. etc.) Finally I just picked up and left, and I am so happy I did it

that's awesome. it's such a hard decision to make to get up, leave a place you're comfortable in, where your friends are and go somewhere else.

looking back on it, it was the best thing i've ever done in my life to get up and go to Korea. and it doesn't even seem like a big deal now. my life went from being boring, depressing and stagnant to exciting and amazing.

YES!

I think the next move for me (if not moving to BC), will be Thailand or Australia. Have to wait until I am finished school though. P.S. Not using that as an excuse!!

Don't think about it as an excuse. Schooling is one of the major things the country uses to consider your entrance.

No, I definitely know that it legitimately isn't an excuse this time around. I *have* to finish school if I intend to go to either country (want to teach ESL in Thailand and go to Teachers College in Australia).

I am so anxious to finish school. I don't want to get "comfortable" here. The move from Ontario to AB was a good step though

don't know if it's been said yet (can be bothered to scroll through all the bullshit in this thread after like the 3rd post) but the best option for a Canadian in Europe to my knowledge (unless agreements have changed in the last 5 years) is the "Vacances-Travail" visa in France, made for Canadian youth between 18-35. Gives you a one-year work and residence permit. Teach English when you get there, get a copy of a FUSAC magazine and away you go.

Amazing experience. And most people speak English in Paris anyway, but if you live in Ottawa you should have a fair grasp already, I think.

ps. if you're lucky and you work for a very good company, they might sponsor you to stay on beyond the one year.

the teaching english abroad thing has become cliche as fcuk. Every other arts student that can't get a job domestically(surprise surprise) joins the masses to go teach in east asia.

I would imagine the general quality of the teaching is shit(No offense or n e thing).

try the bill and melinda gates charity in india, you apparantly get to put corrupt cops in their place !
