If you guys knew wtf you were doing and acted like it, bartenders usually don't fuck with you because they know better. Pretty much, man the fuck up and wear your balls (at the very least when you go to a club) so people don't take advantage of you like that. Just a small tip for ya, didn't mean to offend anyone by this just trying to help.

In short: Don't be like this when you walk in a club, but more like this ... And know what your doing, or at least act like you know what your doing and people won't fuck with you. It's a basic social power principle... That's my lesson for the day for you kids! Enjoy!

I don't know who you are talking about. I'm sure some trance fans are like this, but don't group us all together. I don't think anyone that has posted has a lack of confidence. I mean, it's more the bartenders and clubs rather than the type of music being played there. The bartenders at Opera, for example, are the same whether it be Armin or Digweed. That being said, I for one have never been majorly ripped off. I just don't like the idea that some people are and know that some people will try to get more money from you. I've dealt with shady bartenders and believe me, I don't allow them to take advantage. I usually only buy 1 drink anyways, so I haven't given them much of a chance to rip me off. If a bartender ever did try to take a $5 tip from me, I'd probably get myself into trouble because I wouldn't just let it go. And no, I'm not upset or trying to start anything, but that's kind of a bad generalization to say most people into trance are pussies. Weren't you really into trance when you first started posting, what happened to that?

The Mark is pretty small right? I'm tempted to go to the Acosta show there just to get to experience the smaller scale shows. I really like the idea of going somewhere like that but just can't get into the music that is usually played there. Maybe I should try harder.

Ya...I don't walk into the club acting like I piss excellence, but I definitely don't cower or act timid either. I haven't had any problems in Atlanta or Miami. This story is specific to New York. I don't think there was anything in my character being portrayed as weak or meek.

Also PvDFan, you should definitely hit up Acosta. That's another show I'll be at. Friday night at the Mark, can't miss.

I was, then I started listening to good music. Trance is still good, but only like 10% of it. House is on the climb up, while trance passed it's peak a while ago.

And I was just making a generalization, hence why I said nothing against anyone. Reason for that was because of the 'rip off' stories got me thinking there had to be a reason that person got ripped off. Every time I gave a bartender a $20 for a drink, I always get correct change, sometimes it takes a while because they are busy taking other orders but in the end they always bring you your money.

Mainly my point was, if you look like a person that can be taken advantage of, they won't hesitate to do it because they get the idea that you won't really do anything. Which is why first impressions matter!

Nah, I'm an extremely nice person.

But I can be assertive and aggressive as fuck when need be.

Hence me getting my change back after talking to the bartender.

I'm surprised to say this, but I may choose this over Armin. I want to see Acosta and chill at the Mark. Might be my only chance to hear some good trance there.

I'm not.

George Acosta and Markus Schulz are actually my two favorite DJs at the moment. Armin has gotten a little too cheesy sadly. Still love his stuff for the most part...but Trance is suppose to be about the melodies and energy. And he's been trying to overcompensate with the vocals lately.

I hope I can get a ride to this...should be able to. The Mark isn't really walking distance from my place.

Armin's still great.

He's just fallen from my #1 spot over the last year and a half. Still love his sets tremendously. Just a couple other DJs have stepped it up to become a bit more style in my opinion.

romz, don't get me wrong, I don't have a confidence problem. The issue is having to reconcile a situation after the fact. Personally, I would not let a situation go if I had paid cash for a drink and the bartender took it upon him/herself to pocket my change.

The more insidious and scarier problem is if you use a credit/debit card and open a tab, and phantom drinks start accumulating on your tab. Unless you get some kind of running tally every time you get a drink (which I'm not sure they do), you have to wait and see how it turns out at the end of the night. With the amount of commotion that goes on at a crowded bar, or in this case club, and tabs open and bartenders swamped, I'm not surprised that tabs get totally screwed up. It's just a major hassle trying to sort it out with them at the end of a long night.

i don't get nervous walking up to a bar, but i do if i've got to give a speech in front of a class.

and i'm looking forward to seeing avb, regardless.

And thats why you shouldn't ever open a tab at a busy bar. It always happens, bartenders don't really have the best memories, especially when they take hundreds of orders on a busy night. Either bring cash or don't drink. There are always ATM's at every club, so I don't see why you couldn't withdraw some cash anyways. And if you do dispute the charges at the end of the night with them, who knows if you actually ordered the drinks or just bullshitting them and trying to get free drinks. Thats the dilemma they face. You gotta look at it from both sides of the table.
