Yes son, I've been to a protest before, and I live in DC and work next to the White House, so I walk through them on a daily basis. They're ineffective.

Of all the things to say I must have read in a book, that was a pretty bad choice. Though that said, an empirical study of the correlation between popular protest and policy change would be an interesting article to submit to the Journal of American Political Science...

Mass mailings have greater effect, because those actually require a response (and individuals to attach their name to something instead of joining a faceless mob).
