As for grades, grades don't measure intelligence, fuck that. I focus on learning the material. If I don't well on an assignment, but I remember and can apply it better a year later than an A student, well then who's better off? Then again, I've always been a fan of curving stuff so that the class average is a C, every time. A's should be earned, and frankly its fucking stupid to give people who just do all the work an A, right?

It really depends on the program of study. In my department I know a bunch of C students who would hand any A student their ass any day save maybe the physics/mathematics kids.

Nah i know, and my program's been going downhill the last decade. Shouldn't things like intro classes and stuff where everyone does the exact same work on the exact same material just be graded pass fail or something like that though? Or maybe not pass fail, just a requirement to get 75% or above. That seems more reasonable to me.

Yeah, for example, a guy in your same department who is really good at Digital Electronics (circuits, diodes, transistors) may not be able to do a large project for Object Oriented Design or Operating Systems. I have the same classes with the same dudes every year, and all the guys are really smart but they definitely have their strengths and weaknesses

Strengths and weaknesses aren't what I was talking about. I was talking about the intrinsic difficulty of a specific program compared to others. Like comparing a physics degree to a degree in women's studies. I'm sure kids who failed out of the physics program are still more intelligent than A students in women's studies.

Sure, that's fairly obvious that people who even attempt something like Engineering are automatically able to do better in classes than your average joe majoring in Sociology or something.

I have a bachelors degree in Microbiology & Cell Science, and a minor in Chemistry. I work for an environmental firm that does consulting on environmental projects, and building envelope science.

see, this is what i like to see: people using their degree to some extent in their current job. nothing like going to college for 4-5 years, and working at Lowes or McDonalds. seems like such a waste.

good job for putting your smarts to work in a positive way in society!

i've been working full time as a graphic designer for almost 8 years now. i've taken a bunch of classes here and there and am finishing up a web design certificate right now, but i've never done the full-time school thing. i think i'd like to get a degree eventually, but for now i just really enjoy having a full-time paycheck.

I'm 2 years in on my undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a GPA right at 3.0. I've already sent out my resume all over Redstone Arsenal and hopefully might be able to snag an internship this summer.
