I've known her 3 years this June, out after 6 months then 18 months after got engaged and 1 year later we shall be married. Which is next satday.
So not many people in this conv. are married I'm guessing.
How come nobody has a good word to say about marriage?

why are you getting married?
i just don't believe love needs a ring and an expensive party to make it real. If you are committed now, you will not be more committed after saturday... unless it is because of religion which is just more lol.
The only difference is that it is going to cost you a couple of grand when you break up

I think a lot of it just boils down to outside pressure - parents asking you to marry, friends asking you when you'll marry, so people end up with this sense that marriage is something that's necessary. I think also it grants some people a sense of security ... almost like if you're married, it'd be harder to break up so that means there's an added probability that you'll stay together.
The realistic and concrete advantages of marriage are in the tax laws that favor married couples.
