Yes, experts have their place, and we should have faith in them, but they should also be held to some sort of performance goals. Systems cannot be run with the 'just in case' mentality.
Remember that in cases like this, a lot of the information does not even come from experts that we pay (government officials/scientists), it comes from the media, who are paid to comment, and not protect.
All I am saying is that you should actively question the information that you are given. |
I'm not saying that we should put 100% of our faith in "experts" without questioning them...but they are "experts" for a reason and dismissing this as nothing is kind of naive.
let's put it this way...who's in a better position to do a risk assessment of this situation...
health experts or the people posting in this thread 
of course we should always question information. but to dismiss it out of some sense of perceived knowledge or because what's happened in the past with other illnesses/threats proved to be blown out of proportion is foolish. do we wait until something kills thousands before we take it seriously?
that is a terrible way to live too...
now all these travel advisories...banning of pork imports in other countries...that's perhaps a wee bit over-the-top
