I fail to see the correlation.

I guess if I realised a Masters Degree opened up doors to epic amounts of money I might have bothered with one.

I was friends with a guy at boarding school who learned on a Ferrari 355! His brother (a couple of years older than him) worked their way through cars like nobody's business. In his first year of driving he had a BMW M5, Mercedes CL600, a Mercedes S55 AMG, the aforementioned 355 and a few Porsches. Pretty much any desirable car, they'd had or owned it! They didn't total them, they'd just have them for a few months get bored and sell it. I mean, if you're going to drive high end performance cars from day 1 what's the point in learning in a Kia Rio?

Fortunately the guy was a very responsible driver and wasn't stupid enough to fall for the peer pressure to drive at insane speeds. My favourite car related story with him was when he got a new Porsche 996 delivered and didn't have any garage space for it at his house in the middle of London. As a result he gave it to one of my friends to keep at the school so it was there if he wanted to drive it. (our school only allowed students to keep one car each) He paid for all the insurance and petrol for whenever my friend wanted to drive it, no matter what it was for. My friend had the Porsche for about 4 months and didn't pay a dime for it, and the owner never used it! Good times...

huh?

not all racing drivers are so privileged... racing schools don't drop you into an F1 car right away, and the Finns learn car control using beaters.

its a good story but teaches more about being well-to-do than being able to drive|

the correlation is they both made quite a bit of money but they still gave me a straight A student a geo storm as a first car

I think you missed the point

He was talking about rich kids, not pro drivers. They start their driving life in cars that most 30 year olds ( or 40 year olds) would be stoked to own.

maybe, but as far as i have gathered, he *himself* is well to do, and inflection is difficult to discern in posted text messages.

this is from past postings, so perhaps he will prove me wrong with his stern discipline, concern for the poor youth and fewer stories of friends with Ferraris, but you can only hope for so much|

I'm pretty sure he was simply responding to a previously asked question, along the lines of "Why are these kids given expensive cars to cruise about in, when they don't know how to properly drive them".

Essentially, they are rich kids.

He then went on to give some anecdotal stories to accentuate just how ridiculous it can be, for example, a guy he knew learning to drive in a Ferrari.

Or maybe I'm wrong?

Chill
