Why aren't our local boys headlining? I guarantee you, you give anyone from Zack to Frank to Tom Colontonio to Big Mike the headlining set anywhere, you'll have any NYC venue going crazy. Our guys consistently deliver, and yet these clubs insist on paying $5000-40,000 on these guys that get mixed reviews EVERYTIME. It's really a damn shame, pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

I agree, something needs to happen with the trance scene, we need some new energy. I wandered into pacha last weekend around 5 and boris had the place packed and was destroying the place.I left around 6:15 and it was still going strong. What ever happened to the 8 am trance parties. I can't imagine what kind of set a dj could put together in 2 hours, anyone can drop bomb after bomb for 2 hours straight. Big name trance parties are turnig more and more into concerts unfortunately.

Well, yes and no... Pacha always has a crowd... My point is that you can go to plenty of parties where 90% of the crowd are friends and supporters of the local openers and closers, and maybe 10% are the diehard fans of [insert obscure European DJ here]. I think even just 5-10 years ago, nightclubs were doing a better job at breeding the locals. Some of Pacha's most attended events now are the Jonathan Peters's, Boris's, Roger Sanchez's, etc., all New York and local guys. They rose to fame in a time when the venues believed in the local talent and went out of their way to market them. I think some years ago, the local venues just decided to not even bother anymore, and it's a shame...

Just for an example, ask yourself if Sullivan Room is pretty packed week-in and week-out because the crowds like Sleepy & Boo and the vibe they bring, or do you think they're all really going out of their way to see the D:Fuse or John Tejada guys they're bringing, etc.? Or likewise, is Love packed every week because everyone wants to see the Giuseppe Ottaviani's and Stoneface & Terminals, or is it the locals in the cave and opening/closing DJs carrying the weight and doing their job well as promoters (plus the promoters themselves)?

From an insider's point of view, I see firsthand that the locals bring in a shitload of people to these clubs. So if their draw and hardwork put into a party is good, and their music is good, it beats me why the venues aren't supporting them with more local nights, whether trance, house, techno, etc...

Just my two cents, I may be wrong haha...

Totally agree, years ago clubs like Exit, SF, Limelight actually experimented with the local talent & also different style of electronic music.

And I apologize sometimes for being too opinionated haha... But I'm looking at Zack's opening tracklist and I can't help but see that as WAY more interesting than half the guys our clubs are flying in from half the world away to play to us for steep ticket prices...
