hahaha.. I'M joe, =P... but yeah, cortexbomb, i'll give a fucken eh to your post. exactly what i'm thinking, =P.

anyways... i'm just saying that people need a chance, and i'm grateful that my friends didn't think i was too "uncool" for trance (and i probably wasn't cool enough, =P)... they just introduced it to me. none of this "its my music and i don't want you listening to it" attitude. that's how people get started.

for example, ppk - resurrection just made #14 on the top 40, woo hoo! (yes.. i listen to the radio, =P) and ALL my friends are diggin it... why? cause its cool to like whatever is top 40? NO... its just cause its a damn good song and they've never heard it before. one of my friends recognized it from a mix i made and was like "didn't you have this song like a couple months ago? i was gonna ask you what it was but i forgot...". and yeah, they think its a new song, but i'd be kind of an ass to laugh at them.... you can't expect everyone to be on TA.com, checkin out the newest tracks. i politely inform them that the track is pretty old and tell them i'll send them the mp3. done... another trance fan has been made, =P.

they didn't dump minimalistix, it was pumped like 70%. but that idiot dj hammer was screaming in the background that it's a horrible song trying to influence the vote. last week they even had 4 strings-take me away and it got pumped. as the pop cycle is on the decline, they have to turn to something and it's a hell of a lot better than hip hop or rock. it's when KIDS 92 starts to play trance is when we should start to worry.

That's not trance people.... it's Nu-EURO

:P

I dunno about you guys, but i've been hearing Cosmic Gate and Tracid Tracks in clubs for a while.. and these are clubs that are more well known for RnB and House.

The Gino-scene is... and has always been waaaaaay behind the times.

The whole thing about people not liking hearing Trance on the radio is because of EGO.

Basically, they don't want their "secret" Trance to be heard by the mainstream because then the mainstream will be just as "good" as they are. By confining Trance to the underground, such people retain a false sense of security, a sense of "I'm better than the mainstream because I listen to intelligent music and not pop shit."

My $0.02.

I think this is a fair way of putting it but I also think a third factor exists...hearing a song repeatedly often influences your opinion on it. When you combine a willingness to be a fan of whatever gets airplay with a regular rotation a lot of people will end up actually liking the tune. Granted, they'll still be unwilling to delve any deeper into the scene but that's life I suppose

I think with the existence of the WWW and all of *this* that there's really less of an excuse to not be out there *looking* for more stuff though. I know when I first got into independent music in the mid 90's (at that point I was into Indie Rock...) I still wasn't online and depended on word of mouth for new music recommendations. I got to be friends with people working at my local music shop and talked with people at shows to get the scoop on different stuff I might dig on.

Once I got online I couldn't believe how much information there was for a music fan...my horizons expanded and I eventually got into the whole European dance music scene which would have been nigh impossible before then due to cost and lack of info alone.

I guess I look at the kids today who are growing up with the net and I have a harder time being sympathetic to their lack of curiousity about different kinds of music...we live at a time when new tunes are only a click of the maus away, why listen to commercial stuff that you don't really care for when you can dig into a scene you really like?

The amount of info also gives me hope...if a tune like the Sound of Goodbye gets some airplay then 97% of the people who hear it are going to leave it at that but the other 3% are going to look into finding more stuff like it and eventually join the wider scene.

The only thing that REALLY bothers me is....

ZEE ONE OH THREE

We're Canadian.... wait... wait...

I am not a Lumber Jack or a Fur Trader!
And I don't live in a Igloo or eat Blubber or own a Dog Sled!
And I don't know Jimmy, Sally or Suzie from Canada although I am certain they're really really nice!
I have a Prime Minister not a President!
I speak English and French not American, and I pronounce it "About," not "A Boot."
I can proudly sew my Country's Flag onto my back pack!
I believe in Peace Keeping not Policing, Diversity, not Assimilation, and that the Beaver is a truly Proud and Noble Animial!
A Touque is a Hat! A Chesterfield is a Couch!
And it is pronounced "Zed," not "Zee," but"Zed!"
Canada is the second largest Land Mass!
The First Nation of Hockey, and the best part of North America!
My Name is Joe, and I Am Canadian!

^^^ one of the most pathetic commercials i've seen... *sigh*

anyhoo, back to the topic... as i've said in other previous threads about this topic, trance getting airplay can only benefit the almost non existant trance scene in toronto, in case you havent noticed, progressive house rules toronto :/ ... so yea, i'm all for it! i for one am tired of hearing joee, britney, nsync and shit like that day in and day out on the radio... ugh

pathetic is such a harsh word.... it wasn't THAT bad... it was pretty good, =P.

anyways, it was nice having such a heated debate without anyone flaming or being childish. but i guess everyone will have their opinions. i've said what i have to say... and i hope people can start lightening up towards the "newbies" in the trance scene. i just have ONE last thing to say here, then i'm done with all this.

its just MUSIC... that's all. take one song. take away all the genre classification, the scene politics, the status, the egos, and all you have is just a song. like it or leave it. forget what other people say, forget what's on the radio, forget what genre someone tried to classify a song in. just take it as a song and listen to it. its that simple. i see a lot of threads where people are ASHAMED to like certain songs for some reason or another (mostly cause its "cheese")... i say fuck that. listen to what YOU wanna listen to. listen to trance, rock, jazz, polka, or chinese opera, but listen to what YOU like, because YOU like it. conversely, hate a song becuase YOU hate it. not cause ferry corsten hates it, or the gino down the street likes it.

peace out. (sorry for the long rant... i was out in the sun for a very long time... me go LOCO, =P)
