A religious person might say that there is no "transformation," since a human being consists of a spirit inhabiting a body, and death is just the time when spirit (the true core of "personhood") and body separate. Sort of like when you get out of your car after driving to the store.

See if the hotel is listed in the Haunted Hotels directory. There may be accounts of other people having the same issues there (possibly patrons) that you may be unaware of.
