the selections process would probably take too long. that's why it took a year to do those dubexperience mixes. the personal mixes i do is sometimes sloppy but i'm reluctant to give off anything substandard if someone else is going to hear it
That's the main reason behind my suggestion.
I'm not terribly interested in listening to a genre mix designed to segue well, etc. I think the general idea is to get an idea of the taste of the assembler, and I think that is going to be narrowed by the medium. I don't honestly see the difference between that and a "classic genre-of-choice dj set".

Like I said, if you're that hung up about it, you can do the most simple of mixing. I've already emphasised the mix-tape aspect, so nobody should have the idea that it should be seamlessly mixed, but I think what you're suggesting is just as restrictive in different ways, ways I've already mentioned.
I expect to hear some wildly different sets from people, and the mixing and programming style will be part of that. The emphasis is on choice.
Fair enough, I didn't mean to push the issue really, as it was your idea and a good one.

But if it's unmixed it will discourage people from using longer 12" mixes that would eat up several minutes with intros and outros. Anyone is free to do the simplest of quick cuts or crossfader slams if they don't want to mix at all, but the option is there.
I'm not convinced by the "two mixes a month" idea, largely because I'm a lazy bastard and I don't want to spend lots of time PMing people and chasing things up. I appreciate that everyone wants to have a go, but I also don't want to cheapen the sharing of special tracks by swamping the forum with mixes.
I fully agree with what you're saying. A month is more than enough time to make a decent mix of favourites. I think being every month would also increase the anticipation and excitement even more, while every fortnight might work, I feel it would lose interest more rapidly.
The thing with playing tunes unmixed is that it works fine for those that choose from a diverse range of genres or styles, but for those that have a more specific taste or say only have a taste for one particular genre or style of EDM, unmixed tracks are boring as hell.
Just my 2c.
