From what I gather from the post, J doesnt know...he's trying to inspire something noone has ever seen (musically) for the coming decade. How can he predict what it'll be if the movent hasnt happened yet?

Futurism as an ideology embodied in a "new sound" becomes a dead end. There are only so many different sounds that can be made, and only a small fraction of those sounds will be pleasing to enough human ears to develop a musical community around them. People can talk about amazing new interfaces or synthesis methods all day -- and I will probably listen, being interested in that sort of thing -- but the only issue that will matter to most listeners is what sort of noise comes out of the speakers.

We're living in that future. To idealise hardware is to betray the very point it existed for. As soon as dance music looked back with glistening eyes at Detroit, Chicago and the Second Summer Of Love we destroyed everything those people sequenced and programmed for, just as bands like Oasis destroy the rebellious spirit of rock by adhering to "good time, old fashioned rock 'n roll values". Idealising hardware is a betrayal. If Phuture were dead, they would want you to dance on their collective grave.

Or they just wanted to listen to music they like, not the music they should've liked?

I don't think is a valid analogy. Firstly, the hypothetical people in question may not have liked synthesised music but they could not dispute that most of it was new and it was undeniably a movement. Secondly, we're talking about a different generation who would not have been subjected to the cultural forces I've described. Finally, I'm not talking about people merely not subscribing to a movement. I'm talking about no movement existing for them to subscribe to, and none of them moving for anything.

You're making a circular argument. I'm claiming that my generation lacks a genuine movement to keep them in the present because of the things I'm talking about. Movements don't arise external to social and cultural forces. If my generation doesn't have a movement equivalent to 80s new romantics or ravers, then why? Why haven't they created one?

Wasn't indie hipsterism the "movement" of this decade?

Hipsterism seems more like a "movement leech", eating up a huge amount of other trends and producing nothing new or inspiring of their own.
