The 'people are just jealous of trance' theory has made me laugh the most so far. It reminds me of those kids at school who would get bullied and their mums would tell them not to worry and that the other kids were just jealous.

It wasn't jealousy at all. It's because the kid was either fat, special or had a shit coat.

Jealous of trance

Jealous of trance

This may be the most apt comparison ever made.
And that's because the bully usually has issues with self-worth and esteem and tries to feel better about being a prospectless loser who can't aspire to anything greater in life than beating up the fat kid. These guys also often got beaten up by their unloving father, which clearly is the only possible reason why anyone would listen to Minimal.

it's in fact the exact opposite of what trance is. well, at least for me.

i think in order to listen to trance takes a patient mind, a well-tuned ear, and an open mind for listening to music that is often +5-8 minutes longer than your typical 3-4 minute song.

so for me, i love to talk to others about my liking for trance.

i sat here for a while wondering what to write , but this pretty sums up what im thinking.

In my opinion its what separates the greats from the rest though.

Some of the best DJ's I've seen live are the ones who surprise me and play songs I wouldn't have expected or expected to be played at a club.

Again just my opinion.

You said "while the clueless idiots who should have stuck with pop/rock continue listening to trance".
I guess many of those idiots just listen trance because they enjoy dancing and have fun. Probably they only listen it in the weekends.

Think for a second because I never said that.

I listen to all forms of electronic music and still trance. Not as much as I once did but it's just not for me anymore is all. I still come across a trance tune here and there that I enjoy.

Generally though I don't feel embarrassed to say I enjoy trance. It just wouldn't be the first choice if someone asked me what kind of electronic dance music I enjoy most.

I guess I must have misunderstood a lot of what you said, on the other hand you gave enough space for that.

I have been listening to trance and other edm genres since early 90's and never was embarressed a bit when telling I love trance. I even have no problem telling that I loved Happy Hardcore and was a huge Scooter fan. (Cosmos is still a supreme trance track IMO)

Also I don't have a opinion about trance lovers in general since I know there are many people who like trance for different reasons.

because distancing yourself away from trance is another way to look cool and more underground in the eyes of the public after the whole trance train has been derailed.
just like frequently releasing public statements that "99% of all EDM produced is shit". just a few simple PR tricks. you get to be on top of the fashion wave is you are smart enough to shit on the previous trend first
you can see it happening again and again and again...

I'll give you a few reasons

1. it's painted itself into a musical corner. trance is unmatched in terms of how insular it is as a genre (well, maybe comparable to buddy-genres like hardstyle). the "odd kid" indeed.

2. it's overly dramatic in a naive way. the endless breakdowns and "take you on a journey" crap isn't gonna fly outside its own niche, sorry. see my first point.

if you've extensively listened to, well, anything else, none of this should come as a surprise to you.
