yeah, i mean when i think swayzak i usually think the richard davis mixes of "another way" and "smile & recieve" so it was nice to hear something a bit deeper from them. and i'm pretty sure a friend recommended tensake? tensnake? to me but i never got around to checking em out til this mix.

edit: Shirley Lites – Heat you Up (Melt you Down) is a sick track too

and for those of you saying that the mixes were too abrupt- have you ever tried mixing disco records before? it's not like house or most EDM with ~1:00 of intro and outro tailored to the dj's mixing needs. most of those tracks don't even have an opportunity to properly mix out of, so jj does the best he can with what he's got. sounds great to me.

Because you're purporting that this is something new when it isn't. Jamie Jones has been into funk and disco since before he started DJing. He's not a "tech house guy" just because he made "Amazon", he's always played a wide range of music and this is just a side of him that many are obviously not familiar with if his productions are all they know about him.

Not to mention that DJs from Seth Troxler to Derek Plaslaiko to Three (or any other so called "tech" characters) have been playing songs like these in sets for years.

You can't classify all DJs with simple genre tags, because the guys who are really good defy them.

I think it's really great for DJs to use the essential mix to expose another side of them, as opposed to say, Steve Lawler playing 2 hours of exactly what he plays at every single fuckin gig.

i think that the track selection was great. however, like i said, his mixing wasn't precise and i personally didn't like it.

What wasn't "precise" about it? From some of the comments in this set I was expecting this to be some jankily mixed together piece of shit, which makes absolutely no sense given the source. You guys are nuts.

God forbid someone actually use turntables to mix a set instead of Ableton and a mouse.
