good place to live
when you are young and make decent money. being easy on the eyes also helps, opens doors. but having a positive - can do attitude goes a long way.

don't plan on staying here long though
definitely not settling down here

not a place for a family
or old people in general

they have it tough here.


took a while to get used to, but now that i know where everything is,

Here it's predominantly French and Spanish with some Portuguese, but there's a good deal of Hindi and Urdu as well, surprisingly. Every now and then you'll hear people switch fluidly from Mandarin to English to French in a group meeting setting - that's truly amazing to me.

It took me 1 year before i started liking it up here. Now this April I will make 3 years here! I can't believe it.

Put myself back into school and I think after I am done with it - I will move back home.. not home home.. miami.. or somewhere new.

i've been a new yorker my whole life and wouldn't think of living anywhere else in the world, except maybe hong kong. i think living in manhattan while working there is kinda tough. by living out in queens, i at least get some separation between the hustle and bustle of the city and the relative quiet of the outer boroughs.

i've lived in nyc for the last four years, first two spent in the lower east side and the last two spend in the upper west side. either or i could give two shits about this city and can't wait to have a better job opportunity so i can leave. i can honestly say i've never really liked this city, i moved here for a job and at this point it's no longer worth it. i feel like all i do is work or think about work and really i can't be paid enough to do that or live in this city. even if you make decent money it's not like you have time to spend your money and at the end of the day it's a shitty place if you ever want to settle. maybe i'm not the best person to comment on nyc but it's been fun but i'm almost 30 and it's time to check out.

Edit: Oh, right I see. The ones going along the river are actually ferry routes, not trains. There's only one bridge that takes the trains over the river.

Planning to live in NYC in 2 years. Gonna have my first trip there next summer to see how things are and to check colleges.

Personally I think I'm spoiled with everything here in Singapore.

People in general are friggin rude there, I've been there a few times and this is what hits me the most.

Not the traffic (it does get crazy in the middle of the week)
Not the crowdiness
Not the dirtiness

Just the fucking people that stare at you when you say "have a nice day" or "thank you" or "sorry", as if you just landed from Mars.

As soon as you're 30-40 miles away, people become much nicer, by magic

This is what my gf said as well. Not just about NY, but also about NJ and Massachusetts.

They don't have that southern hospitality.
