So many cultures you could choose from aboriginal is quite complex to begin with and not sure you would have extensive literature on it like we do in oz. Why don't you just choose any religion they all have their limitations.

The one example that comes to mind is a buddhist man died and the family wanted to keep his body there for 8 or so hours so the monks could do their rituals ect. If you work in a hospital you will know they do not allow such things as bums in beds = money. In the end they let the patient who died stay for the time the family requested but it wasn't met with open arms

Speaking of death also jews & muslims i think like to bury the deceased within 24hrs of them passing, which makes it quite complex when autopsies are involved.

Not THOSE aboriginals, lol.

At any rate...I do appreciate everyone's help, but as I said I'm going with one of the case studies from that link I posted.

The paper isn't actually on the culture. It's on the application of Leininger's theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality to practice. We're just including the case study to help illustrate how a nurse would use the concepts of her theory when making decisions about care.

Yeah I'm well aware of that, but I still see its value and think I'll be a better nurse because of it. Plus I don't want to just stop after I get my bachelor's...I want to get my master's, so I might as well get used to this shit.

Nah, usually we get hired right after we're done our consolidation at whatever facility we did it at. They hire you on with a temp license and that's that. Conditional upon passing the RN exam, of course.

There are certain communities in remote areas of China (wish I had an exact name, I will ask the person who told me this story) who believe that an elderly person with a life-threatening illness should not be told about the severity of their condition. Rather, they believe that it is up to the younger generations to group together and support the ill person in question with a form of palliative care.

I believe this stems from the culture's core values of strength in community, where no person is seen as an individual, but rather as part of the collective.

The nurse I know was then faced with a personal dilemma because she firmly believed that the patient should be aware of his condition. Although the patient's children forbade her to tell their father that he had only months to live. fucked up shit. I honestly don't know what I would have done.

Don't know if it helps but in Scottish culture "bothering the doctor" was and is a big issue. My grandma would need to be at deaths door to "bother the doctor" literally at one point she was out of her head with an infection asking him how he (the doctor) was.

My dad got my little brother to clean up the house for 2 hrs before the doctor came ... while he had gall stones.

You want extreme stuff western culture has plenty. And that's just the quickest examples I can think of.
