BTW, my girl is into EDM too. She just likes the Latin Indie EDM stuff & some cheese.
But everytime I take her to a very hardcore gig like Digweed or Sasha, she freaks.

My wife freaks out at the likes of Digweed and Sasha, but for totally different reasons. In her world it's a load of cheesy crap, she will only barely accept Marco V and SVD.
She thinks that lyrics are too fluffy and unless the bass blows your head off it's a waste of time.
Generally in the UK you get a pretty good split in clubs and I think in general this thread generalises too much. Not to mention one or two really scary opinions on women.
With regards to Gay clubs... you get heaps of straight women and men for that matter who go there because the music is often better than in mainstream clubs in their opinion.
I think it's a pretty fair generalisation to say that men are more active in scenes whatever they may be, but that doesn't mean women are any less into it in other ways.
The difference can often be like this...
A man sees or hears something that he appreciates, he has to copy, immitate and become part of that thing.
A woman can often sit back and enjoy something in a different way but doesn't always feel the desire to be able to master it.
It's just a typical example of men being different from women, and there are always exceptions to everything.
I doubt that the state of affairs as described in this thread by posters is actually related to EDM per se, but rather because EDM is not the main interest at the moment and you get less people generally who will go to EDM nights state side.
The last Trance gig I played was mainly women about 65 to 35 split. The atmosphere was excellent and the dirtier the bass got the more the floor got into it. What was initially billed as a Trance night ended up almost being a full on techtrance night instead. But it's what the crowd wanted.
We started off lighter with funk and vocals, got people into it and then released the mayhem and never saw any reason to look back. It was a good night and everyone was happy.
We had 4 DJs who know how to read the crowd and that makes a world of difference.
Female dancers will often show their lack of interest by leaving the floor or the club all together. Men will challenge the DJ by gestures or walking up with the classic lines like 'when are you going to play something good'.
Celebrate the differences and accept them for what they are, it will make your life simpler and more enjoyable.
Cheers
