I think that the fact that I'm not playing out is also affecting my tracklists, as I don't get the chance to play all my favorite tracks all the time and end up cramming them all in the same set.

A situation that I'm planning to take care of soon enough. I have the contacts to get me a monthly or weekly slot on a small club, but I've been such a pussy.

i'm just glad you took my comments with a grain of salt and not as an insult

you have the mixing down pat, all you need is to define your sound more You are young and could play out based on what i have heard.

This is a hypocritical statement in a way, as i will release a set next week that is the total fucking opposite of the sound i have tried to put out.

I don't want to gig at all though, i just want to show my supreme chin stroker skills.

ps you can play great music without only playing your favourite tracks. It reminds me a bit of the steve angello filler vs killer thread...you know? Bombs are only bombs if you set them up to be so.

Thanks man, I embrace anything that will make me improve.

You might never know what you're doing wrong if people don't criticize your work. It is exactly those sorts of comments on my mixes which have helped me improve so far.

I have that same problem, I counter it by just buying an obscene amount of music. Any time I have free time (like now...at work lulz) I check out labels, Beatport, different release lists...just to get a feel of what's out there. Then I try to craft three or four different kinds of sets: early early, opening, closing/late night, or afters.

I'm also buying copious amounts of ganja music at the time, and don't have enough time to really listen to everything that I buy fast enough. More often than not, I listen to a track a few days after putting out a mix and think "damn, I should have used this one".

Thanks for the advice, that's something that I try to do. I have different playlists in iTunes labeled "Early Afternoon", "Afterhours", "Filler", "Peak Time", "Outdoorsy", etc. But I really need to invest more time in it, in order to get all my music sorted that way.

Don't know how the hell I'm going to make more time. Between work and my girlfriend I'm pretty much full, lol.

Try this:

In iTunes create a playlist folder for the month (September 09, October 09 etc), then within those folders create playlists for different moods (late, early, filler etc) and even your top 10 for the month. Helps A LOT...the only problem is you might end up sticking to the newest month every gig/set, hard to get out of that style but I think it works

Holy shit!

When did they add playlist folders?

My biggest problem, myself, is spending too much money and over budgeting myself like a mother****** =p My AmEx does have a limit on it eventually =/
