Ya I read that its not the case and that new tokens are way too expensive. Plus, the price hike takes effect January 3rd so there is no point.

The one thing that really irks me over this token b.s. is the fact the the TTC wants to constently blame "hoarders" for the current state of affairs.

They need to just f'in admit that all of this has really been caused by a lack of foresight. If they were going to bring tickets back temporaily then just bloody do it at when you announced the fare hike. Not further inconvenience your riders and in many cases force the full cash fare due to lack of optionS.

Sorry if this has been asked already, but why the hell are they designing a new token and not converting to an RFID chip card like the rest of civilization?

[/obvious]

They are not redisgning tokens at all... they have been planning to implement a smart crad system for a while... I think they plan to implement it once metrolinx is fully operational which will be either never or forever from now.

For more info search out Steve Munroe's transit blog.

my guess is unions... the unions wont let the city take away collector jobs hence why we have such an antiquated and expensive system. Im willing to bet that the only way we will ever have a smart card system is if the unions make a deal whereby none of the collectors will lose their jobs.

The reason I don't like the TTC is that it charges so much for a short ride vs a long ride. They should have a tiered system like many other cities have. If I am going out to Etobicoke or Scarborough I would not mind paying 5 bucks but if I am going a few stops on the subway, the cost is not worth it, I would rather drive and park for 2.00 per half hour than pay 6 dollars going back and forth. I would also not mind taking the TTC downtown if it didn't cost 6 bucks. I would pay 2 dollars anyday. I would pay a buck to go downtown at lunch from school the two stops I need to get there. I can get enough parking and not deal with a pain in the ass of waiting for buses all over the place.

Complete stupidity. They stopped issuing tokens to TTC ticket sellers, so that riders had to pay full fair on the buses. The TTC's response was for you to go to a station to get them, but then you could only get 5! So if you never go through a station on your regular commute, you have to spend extra money to get to the station. Just insane how they didn't think this through.

The second largest transit system in North America is being governed by this type of planning? That's just scary.

Yeah for sure. So sad. I have an uncle who drives a bus for Ttc, talk about some of the stupidness that the management does all the time.

I was in line today waiting to buy tokens/adult tickets that expire and the line up was incredible...

So retarded. Why can't the TTC just let us do what's fair and stock pile tokens. They deserve it in the least bit.
