Agreed. Very true. But the nice thing about the Virus is that you can resell it easily. Just try doing that with VSTis. Even if the VSTi company does allow you to transfer, they may charge you or limit the number of transfers. But even if they have no restrictions on transfers, you're still going to have to deal with them which is an annoyance. Access doesn't give a crap if you resell your Virus.

i agree somewhat,
however.. . i would prefer to spend the majority of my time making the melody and the rest of the track than hours making one sound on a VST. with the virus its alot quicker to get "that" sound IMO.
so yes i can see ppl thinking once they get this there music will be automatically AWESOME and they will get signed and be drinking with armin in no time - this isnt true. but i think that it can help improve your songs. my songs have improved since i got it. quite alot actually as i can finally use some real nice sounding leads in them and it sounds professional. and i dont have to spend so much time doing this on vsts (as i find it takes more time to get it sounding "real")
e.g since i got my virus i have had more interest in my songs from labels. obviously the main reason is because the songs are better than they were BUT the virus has made a difference for me personally in regards to that "real" sound IMO

I was just about to write a very similar response. First, I don't think that there are very many people out there thinking that buying a Virus will turn them into a superstar overnight - there are far more people making the obvious statement that it won't (e.g., isrefel), than there are asking if it will in my observations. Second, I think johncannons1 pretty much nailed it - a Virus (or any other tool) can improve your songs, even if it's doing something as simple as inspiring you to try something new, looking at something (e.g., sound design) a whole new way, or making mundane tasks more enjoyable and/or with incrementally better results.

I wasn't aware that you can't learn sound design on a Virus or other hardware. Apparently, the rules have changed over the past 30 years and now you must become certified with software before the International Committee on Sound Design will issue you a hardware license?

I took me almost a year to actually find good use for the Virus, i also got a Moog, which took me 6 months to find useful.
I have a JP 8000 as well which is about 3 years old and i still havent found good use of it (except as midi controller) lol.

I sold my Virus about 8 weeks ago. It's the best 'overrated' thing i've ever had.
