spot on mate. There are so many tensions here these days, Islamaphobia seems to be the norm, mostly from people who see the extremeists and think that speaks for everyone. When they then treat all muslims (or whatever faith) as extremeists, the more likely they are to behave like them in response. Most cultures though just don't integrate which is where something like canada does well in comparison, many of the totas etc come from all over and seem to mostly get on. I like to hate all sides equally for being idiots when they play to the stereotypes.

I have no issues with people that don't want kids. I think if you don't want to have kids then you shouldn't, end of story. It ensures that unwanted kids are not brought into the world and in some small way helps to aliviate the problem of overpopulation.

Personally though, I see no point in my own life without kids. One can only do so much before they get bored. Having kids not only extends my line but it gives me the ultimate accomplishment in life to raise them and watch them grow into adulthood.

Even if I was unable to have kids, I would still adopt some.

my aunt & uncle chose not to have kids, and they've done things that are awesome, been on 6 continents, visited over 70 countries, experienced cultures from australia, peru, brazil, nepal, namibia, egypt, kenya, the arab states, russia, india/goa, thailand, japan and loads more and it's just enriched their lives for it. No children is the sole reason they've been able to do that and I can see the point in it. If I can't find a woman who I really want kids with, then I'd happily just do that.

I've lived in 3 countries, visited countless others and spent more time with people from different culture just in the past 5 years than most people will in a life time. I'm not even 23 yet.

This whole bullshit cop-out about all kids being good for is eating up your money and not being able to truly live because of the financial burden is an absolute crock of shit. If you think it will negatively affect your life to have kids because of the expense and time put in, then don't have kids but don't get on your high horse and proceed to tell others how they are doing it wrong.

I heard once that there have been studies shown that the most happy people are people who have children who have grown up by the time they retire. Once the kids are out of the house things are great for them, and they also have their kids' future to look forward to.

My girlfriend and I have talked about this a lot and I think if we ever decide to have kids we'll adopt them. I find it pretty damn selfish to have more than one or two kids (genetically) as there are so many people in the world and so many orphaned children.

There is some sense of truth in what you can achieve without having children at least as far as a career goes for women. Men, not so much. Contemporary employers aren't exactly enthused by you running off for anywhere between 3-9 months and will not be welcoming you back with open arms in terms of future promotion prospects.
If it wasn't the law in some cases, they'd dump you quick and they really wouldn't care. (Which is just not right but businesses do a lot of things that aren't right)

People manage to be single and have a kid, raise it at least not to be a complete miscreant some of the time, but its not a lifestyle I'd want, scrubbing from day to day on welfare, charity and part time jobs to support what laughingly is called 'child care', while you're off slaving in a career dead end.
In short, stuff that.

Personally I would love to have a child and figure sometime before I'm 40 it might happen now I'm financially stable and done most of the travelling and heavy workload to set myself up that way... but not least of which is the problem of finding someone who isn't a complete dud to get the other half of the equation. Adoption is fairly much off the cards for a gay couple, I'd have better chance telling them I'm single.

exactly right. bearing children is the centrepiece of the gender divide.

I do not want kids. Here is my reasoning. Let me make it clear, here is MY reasoning. I do not care if a person disagrees, this is based from my observations.

reason 1: There is a big chance that the kid will grow up in a single parent home. After looking at all my friends, all from diverse backgrounds and from different regions, the chances of divorce is extremely high. I should not even say friends, people that i know aka co-workers and such. For those who have not divorced, the majority of those family are dealing with adultery. The way i see it, my chances of having a "good" family are slim.

Reason 2: I am going to be raising a grandchild at a VERY early age. Kids start have sex sooner and sooner. While i am not against abortion, i will not push that decision towards anybody. Regardless how much i educate a child, blah blah blah, what they do is ultimately up to them. It is unrealistic of me to believe that any kid will not start having sex at an early age.

Reason 3: Now while not a significant portion of my decision not to have kids, it is there: I have expensive hobbies (this part is selfish, but again it is not a major decision)

Reason 4: My dog Daft filled the void of kids!

None of that is new, nor is it going to get worse. It has been getting better over time.

I hope you're right man, but I just don't see how the rapid influx and populating of one culture in a country who's natives are of a polar opposite culture can possibly lead to improvement (for the native culture).

Unfortunately with the western business model and employment law's, a divide with no middle ground. Children really do need at least 4-5 years of parental support, bonding and education before going to school, one parent can do it, but you wont find a lot of average wage earners in western society that will want to do that on a single income. Income to expenses is quite high and family structure in a lot of cases isn't always available to help out.
