I guess you were talking about the Solaris?

Oscillators Four (4) oscillators. Each can be of the following types:

* MultiMode (standard waveshapes, combinations, plus double saw)
* WaveTable (wavetables 1-64 from the Waldorf Microwave synthesizers)
* Sample playback (.wav file or Akai format)
* CEM VCO chip model (like those used in the later Rev. 3.x versions of the Prophet 5)
* model of the waveform oscillators used in the Prophet VS
* (temperature stable) model of the oscillators used in the MiniMoog.

Seems pretty cool if done right. Audio demos aren't anything even close to amazing. I bet the Arturia stuff can sound identicle to these demos...

If thats what you think I sound like I think you need to look closer at the context.

I said I thought it was overpriced and not that revolutionary. People came back saying that it was a reasonable price (hexadecimal) and that it was a similar price to the virus.

I said that it was similarly priced to a synth of similar concept (although better executed) which was often judged too expensive. I also said that maybe people were happy to pay more for the virus because it has 5x the voices.

This is a better alternative with 32 voices, built off algorithms which are known to be awesome and also costs less. Still slightly overpriced IMO, but I could see myself buying one second hand maybe... http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en...in/specs21.html

Apparently the solaris is digital. Totally lame -- I really don't see the point in any manufacturer making new digital synthesizers with plugins as good as they are these days. Note that I said *new*. Most of the digitals that are being manufatured today are new versions of old classic digitals... the Blofeld, Nord Wave, Virus.. all new versions of classic digital synths.

To further comment, I'd much rather see, for example, a great VSTi from Roland rather than a great digital hardware synth from them simply because that's where I feel digital synthesizer technology is heading and should remain.

The only reason Roland would want to make a new digital hardware synthesizer is that they either want to be lazy and re-use old code like what they did with the JP80x0 and the SH-201/V-Synth having the Supersaw waveform, or for performance. BUT, on the performance issue, I feel that plugins are incredibly stable these days and that it's not uncommon at all to see a performer with a laptop. OR, for example, for ultra stability, Pendulum sampled all their leads from plugins to use in live performances and they still sounded fucking awesome.

Tried? Yes. Use? No. In particular I enjoyed Arturia's synths... really well done emulations. But I'd still rather use my Andromeda and soon Mopho Keyboard/Tetra for analog sounds.

I would like to compare the Q to Largo sometime soon, though. But I imagine Largo is based more off the code of the MicroQ which is not nearly as nice as the "big" Q.

You'll probably like ACE, Synthsquad and dare I say Reaktor too.

Oh, we've had this conversation already.

The audio demos for Synthsquad sounded nice. I also really liked Zebra. But I didn't like Massive so I dont' think I'll like anything else from NI.

Exactly. Now if the Solaris was analogue... That would be different wouldn't it...
