Oh, for sure. Neither would I. In fact, it would be preferable only to have a portion of the set as tribal. A tribal-only set would be really boring.

In my opinion, the best "tribal" sets, are those sets that have lots of dark progressive and tech house tracks, with tribal used as a tool to take the set to the next level. It is a tool that should be used sparingly in any set. Too much tribal = very boring.

his radio show is very good and alot of my friends said he throws down a good set

as for tribal...besides older calderone
i would say tenaglia and chus and ceballos are def up there also
espcially danny...when he is on...HE IS ON

Danny is definitely up there. If he has a tribal segment in his set, you won't know what hit you. However, Calderone has traditionally played a lot more tribal than he has.

exactly, when danny is on point, there are very few dj's who can keep up with him
he will drop stuff like this for hours and just have you begging for more

I think the ship has sailed on Victor playing tribal and I think it's a good thing.

He started off playing circuit house to tribal to minimal to straight techno. His brand is called EVOLVE, so naturally he's going to do so.

I loved his tribal era, and remember him playing tribal parties at Boa and later Sonic in 2004 to 2006. Imagine my utter disappointment at the WMC pool party he threw in 2007 (w/Danny Tenaglia + Chus and Ceballos) when he was playing all techno instead of tribal.

I didn't realize he had made that shift and was disappointed. He played another party that WMC with DJ Vibe, Peter Bailey and Richie Santana, and played all minimal again.

I think some people at this party were expecting tribal VC and weren't ready for the techno. Talking with some old school people they didn't realize VC EVOLVED. It's very rare for Calderone to play in Toronto (he's been at CiRCA twice and Footwork once since 2007), so maybe people weren't up to date with his sound.

Personally, I embraced his style change later on after seeing him at Stereo in July of 2007. If you go to an EVOLVE party (at Stereo, Pacha NYC or during WMC are the only EVOLVE parties) you will be able to see how good this guy really is.

During a long set he plays a variety of genres and even classics. I will never forget hearing Sandcastles at 10am @ Stereo or hearing Dennis Ferrer's Touch the Sky at 11am @ Pacha. He will play some tribal here and there, but he's not about the big breakdown anymore. If you want to hear a big breakdown go listen to some epic trance.

yea i started to get into calderone in late 2006, like i had a few of his old cd's and i liked them but i was more into trance you know
then i started to listen to his sets then my friend told me to go get his evolve cd and from there i was hooked
for me 07 and 08 were his best years cause he was still "evolving" imo like he would still have that tribal/nyc sound with the new techno sound he was doing so it was like 50/50 in his sets...now hes more geared to techno but like you said when he plays for extended sets he throws down alot of different generes and you litterly evolve threwout the night ha ha ha
and hes still about big breakdowns

I don't know..i thought he was bloody great.

there was just enough drums to make me happy and I'm a big fan of the harder, darker techno that he plays.
