Secret weapons are for producers that have to rely on some esoteric thing that is in style and because of their general lack of innovation refuse to let those secrets out as they are pretty much the summation of said producers talents.
People that have to hide their secrets tend to be one trick poneys.

Well considering there's 5 pages of people willfully giving away "tricks" that work for them I have to think innovation isn't something we're shying away from. All the OP's asking for are methods of producing/writing/etc that generally work for us on the off chance they might work for someone else.

just for collab with this topic, not much a secret weapon...
When you find a preset that could fit the track, but it sounds thin and dead, put some fx above: distortion, delay, filtering, etc...
this way the ugly preset, can turn into a good sound.
(its a good tip for producers that arent very good with sound design)
