TD didn't block my account either when it happened. I could still use it - I just wasn't reimbursed until later. I'm sure if I had to use overdraft too they would have refunded the fees b/c it's not my fault.

Switch to TD! lol

You're doing my job for me. Stop it.

They do. You should check to see which number you have as your primary phone number. B/c when they called me one time about suspicious activity they called my house in Windsor, while I was in Cambridge. So my parents have to call my cell phone and have me call them back. Make sure your cell phone is your primary number for this reason.

One thing I'm noticing is that places like the food court establishments in malls are charging 25 cents or more for debit payments to buy food. This doesn't seem right. Any one know if this is allowable?

Makes no difference. More and more these machines are being switched at popular retailers and switched back. The pin numbers are easily retrieved from the altered units. Apparently this "trick" is growing as an epidemic.

I wish but I'd say it costs money and apparently the banks and the Gov can't force business to get that machinery but they heavily recommend it (as far as I know)

Had that happen to me, and they absolutely refuse to tell you where it was. So, I go back, and had another card canceled on me. "dont worry about it, we are working with the police to close the risk". bullshit.

Dude, ANY store out there has the ability to do this so say ALL banks release info for each place, how does that help you?

Even if you avoid every place, the organized crim will just go to another merchant and do it there by paying someone off etc.

Just change what's in your control, your Atm debit card limit, or your pin? (I mean I don't change my pin often) but at the very least your Access card limit...then increase as you need it.

did you change jobs within RBC or left altogether?

anyways, RBC has been really good in the past with all my products and to be honest i try not to use my debit card unless it's really the last choice. much easier to use a credit card because of the insurance on them. they basically return all fraudulent charges quickly and they watch like a hawk when weird shit is going on. i have gotten calls at least once a month from this credit card or that one to confirm my purchases. particularily if i go on a big spree and shop at many different places in one day.

Price discrimination against payments schemes is technically against policy and regulations however it does happen. I'm sure you are aware that if you pay in $$$ at Asian places...there's not tax, etc.

The only time it is actually allowed is if the surcharge is built directly into the terminal. If they swipe your purchase, there will be a message on the pinpad saying that there is a $0.25 surcharge and you can accept or decline (if you decline the transaction will cancel). What is against regulations is if your bill is $4.00 and they enter $4.25 into the machine. However its very hard to police and can get quite complicated on the merchant/acquirer end.
