although it may be true, i'd say the whole region altogether is controlled by israel but officially the lands today are the same as in the third picture. |
maybe so, but it's a troubling trend, I'm sure most would agree. I'm not going to get involved deeply into this discussion, because it's very heated and I have some very strong opinions. But to me, this progression shows a displacement and persecution of an entire peoples on the same scale as anything seen before. Granted situations like this are not limited to this region, but it doesn't make them any less excusable.
I think we as people outside of the conflict often find ourselves blinded to the reality of the situation for 2 reasons :
1. We have little if any stake in the conflict ourselves
2. During our lifetime, we have only seen the existence of the state of isreal, and the trouble in the region, so we are simply able to say "it's a trouble spot", and write it off.
Human beings can be terribly shortsighted, looking backwards as well as forwards.
So we as outsiders have a choice to make. Stay uninvolved and hope that the region sorts itself out [going on 6000 years and counting!], or to step in an mediate peace. It's too bad that foreign policy from a large number of nations across the globe has become so rigid and inflexible that peace becomes almost a hopeless cause.
