It got infected, and I couldn't hear properly with it. I felt a slight pressure and heard everything a bit muddy. Clean your ears and progressively start listening to music quieter.
Driving your car you might jack the volume up, way up, because of the tire noise that makes it's way into your car and your ears, eventually masking the lower frequencies. Well, yeah.

I used to drive with the window open sometimes, but not very much at all in the past couple years. I have also been listening to music at lower volumes in general than I used to in the past year or so (just wanted to protect my ears), and haven't been to any clubs in about a year and a half, either.

Try putting your finger in to both of your ear canals. You'll propably feel either one of them is slightly narrower than the other.
This may be natural at your case, or an indication of ear infection. My left ear canal is narrower than the right one, so an infection in that ear has drastic consequences, everything gets boomy, since it's already a little narrow and the infection will propably get it swollen up somehow, making it more narrow.

I drive an italian car that starts with an f, and the tire noise is fucking incredible. I almost feel like I need some kind of an ear protection driving that red beast.

This thread is shit.

JBJ, its probably nothing serious, some degradation is to be expected from your ears over time I think. It does usually sound like a lowpass filter being applied, or like tinnitus. Be glad you don't have the second one

Maybe give listening to music a break for a bit, or restrict yourself to an hour a day. It doesn't have to be very loud to be damaging if its quite constant, especially if you've been using headphones to produce/listen. Even low volumes for a long time can be quite bad for you AFAIK.

Kismet go to a hearing expert please, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Fuck.

Loud high pitched noises are far more damaging than lower pitched ones. Fact.

Oh and this.
Let's just assume you (kismet) are right (which you're obviously not), could you answer this for me?

Why is it that hearing protection especially attenuates the higher frequencies? If lower frequencies are the problem wouldn't that render the protection useless? So you're saying I paid 150Euro's for custom made protection that doesn't work?

GTFO!

Edit: Proof - brochure of my hearing protection with attenuation curves

Mad For Brad is absolutely right.

Kismet, why don't you try sitting in a small room listening to an 80hz tone for an hour, and then do the same thing but whilst listening to an 8000hz tone, then say which one hurts your ears more (which one causes ringing in your ears, which is a sign of hearing damage).

If you read the thread...which you did not because that would have required reading comprehension skill on your part, and the average forum troll fails in reading comprehension...you would realise there is more to damage than frequencies...there are amplitudes involved. And in dance tracks the kick is highest amplitude, very rarily is it a sound that is 4khz. I can listen to a sound that is 4khz and sits in the mix, far longer than i can stand a kick at a higher volume. Anyhow...the discussion is over...but thanks for throwing ur self into the mix after it is done...typical TA troll ethics. Overall Grade : Fail

I've read the whole thread, and to be fair, the following was your first contribution to it:

"tip: when you're not making mixing decisions on the bass portion of tracks....turn down the bass eq on your speakers/monitors or filter it out with EQ...this will help save your hearing in the long run...especially if you use headphones."

...implying that you think that bass has a significant effect on hearing damage, when this is not the case at all.
