Good night overall, I didn't think I would stay that late but the nice progression of Thomas' set and German sounds of Substance & Vainqueur kept me going till 2h30am. The LED panels set-up was nice and the visuals from designers Baillat Cardell & Fils were awesome.
I was bit dissapointed though with the OSM + Felhmann portion of the show. I was expecting more dancefloor microhouse and dub with OSM musicians jamming on top of the beats...kinda like the Henrik Schwarz and Bugge Wesseltoft jamming sessions that I've seen on youtube. The show made a nice transition between the two genres but I had higher expectations.
Nice to see a very eclectic crowd. The OSM older crowd came out big time for this event.
The classical part was ok. I have seen a dozen classical music orchestra shows in the past and that was not the best. After two hours, you could feel that the younger crowd was getting impatient. We're not used to sit down, silent, for that long...and people were in party mode, drinking Molson M beer (the only drink available there...they event ran out of water at 1am!)
So overall looks like it was Mission accomplished for OSM and Mutek (and Molson). Not sure if I would go to other OSM concerts éclatés but I would certainly encourage Mutek to do similar events throughout the year. There seems to be a high demand for new & different outside of the box events in this city. The electronic music scene is still very much alive. And yesterday was another great example that Montreal is a world class party city.
