What is so horrible about learning a third language, and espescially Swedish? What about obligatory religion, music, art etc? Why is no one whining about those?

Back on topic: Swedish is the easiest (unless you go to Skåne), Norwegian is a little harder but not impossible, Danish is quite hard to understand.

Probably because, range wise, it makes more sense to learn Dutch than Swedish... and Dutch is spoken only by some 20 million people in very specific regions of the world. Given how learning a language is often a laborious task, you might expect the government to make mandatory the study of a language which is either massively present in global politics or widely used in your country.

French, German, Mandarin, and Spanish are much better candidates for a mandatory 3rd language, I reckon.

Because Sweden owned Finland back in the days. And of course, Finns don't want that in their face.
