Also, I thought that studio monitors would be better when recording a mix and PA is more for listening. Wouldn't studio monitors allow for a smoother mix?

you will hear errors better which isnt really necesarry. and your ears will be tired. well depends on the monitors, but most are pretty agitating. i dont care people can do whatever they want, but im just trying to let people understand the difference in applications. i djed on monitors before and it took away all the fun as every mix sounded crap on the monitors while actually they where pretty good mixes.

After writing all of that out, what part about adding a sub to round off the low end did you not understand?

the part where adding a sub makes the midrange sweeter? it doesnt. whatever get what you want and be unhappy after. not my problem.

I've been using my two studio monitors with a matched 360W sub for over two years now, and am perfectly happy with the setup - it's tweaked to suit the room and sounds just fine. When I want to DJ, everything's up and running - when I want to work on production, I switch over to just the tops. Easy.

ok good for you, didnt work for me. way to many flaws in the tracks and the mixing screaming at me.

I have to agree with this. I sometimes think my mixing is sucking balls when in fact when i listen back to the mix on a larger system or a system that is a little bit more raw like a cheaper set of pc speakers or a car stereo and the mix seems fine yet i tend to nearly concentrate too much on getting the mix absolutely perfectly spot on.

I dunno, i just know where Kenny is coming from.

Getting a sub for the low end would help playing on a set of monitors though IMO as I think it'll help muddle the sound a little more.

yes but it it was balanced so it didnt drown the mix, and therefore did nothing to the clarity of the monitors. i could have turned it up probably but its not really the sub freqs doing it for me. its the sound of a PA, punch and treble. i really hate 2.1 systems. maybe it would have been better if the monitors where distanced a little. but i like PAs for djeing ALOT more, makes it ten times as fun when all the mixes are smashing. The errors can be heard in your headphones instead. Thats my way atleast, someone else might like it differently, but they are called monitors for a reason.
