marc houle played one of the best live PAs I've heard to date....way up there with Paul Ritch!! some super eerie minimal techno and lots of synthy tracks!! there were some points where he had so many layers going on - it was super intense his technial side was superb - mixing was point on and his transitions were mind blowing!

good crowd, perfect amount of people. sound system was pretty good for the most part but I thought it was still a bit loud at times...something Cobra is notorious for - however it was bareable even without ear plugs.

magda was pretty good IMO, but she was a bit too conservative for my liking...especially playing after Houle... She didn't make the room go off like Houle did but nonetheless I enjoyed her set. not sure why she held back cuz we were definitely jonzing for some!

great night overall

7.5/10

similar thoughts here. I still prefered Houle's set a year or so ago.

Magda coulda dropped more bangers. She definitely enjoyed herself tho, she had a big fat smile all night. Was nice to be up and close to the booth and decent sized crowd.

Gorgeous ladies too

Amazing night. Jamie Kidd played a great warm up, Houle finally impressed me and played one of the best live PAs I've ever heard.

And Magda... Magda, Magda, Magda! Wow! This is my 2nd time seeing her this year, and she is in the top 3 DJs I've seen in 2010 for sure. In the past, most of the sets I've heard from her were meh or bad, or even worse, but in the last couple of years, she's really picked up her game. Dark, trippy, groovy, sexy and funked the fuck out, Magda played a set that had me smiling and jumping around the entire time. Compared to her other M_NUS compatriots at Stereo 2 weeks ago (Richie, Gaiser), she was better than them both!

Some of the sampling she does and the sound effects in some of her songs sound like they are from another dimension. After that performance, I'm definitely buying their new CD.

Although some didn't like Magda, it's not for everybody. It's not that she "held back", that's just simply how she plays. She plays at a slower pace, but there is a constant groove, and her sound is surprisingly hard hitting for the tempo.

<3 Magda. Keep up the good work!

What time did it go until? We left shortly after 3. Don't think I've seen Cobra filled as much as it was so early in the night before. Great crowd!

Houle was good; pretty much the same experience every time I've seen him. I would have liked to hear some different or newer tracks, but for those experiencing him for the first time it's a real treat. His productions are some of the best in the Minus crew.

Magda was good too, but I also felt she held back a little bit. She played a lot harder than I had anticipated, considering how slow and creepy her album was. I would have enjoyed her set to be more stripped down and slower... at least one or 2 of her album tunes!! Other than that everything was top notch. It's a relief to finally hear some good techno in Toronto, considering how much of a failure most events have been in the past few months.

Really solid night @ Cobra!

Great opening by Jamie as always, great guy and can't say enough good things about him and the platform crew as a whole. Cobra filled up nicely but never got too packed to take away from the vibe. I was happy that it began to thin out around 2 as well, tons of space to move around and it was a great intimate feel for the people that actually came out for the music.

Sound was pretty good IMO, definitely LOUD but not enough to leave a ringing this morning, decently tuned as well.

WTF was up with the random stripper photo-shoot?! LOL

Marc was awesome, probably the most technically gifted on the minus label in my opinion. Really fun and stripped down layers upon layers. Really nice guy too, chatted with him a bit over a cigarette and he had a blast last night. Great track selection and I'm glad he threw in a couple of his classic productions as well.....huge smile on my face when Selection dropped

Magda was really solid too. Not the best I've ever seen from her, but for a Thursday night in Toronto it absolutely did the job. As said earlier, she has her own sound and approach to mixing, you either love it or it goes over your head. Her attention to detail and track selection is amazing for me and she's so smooth on that mixer. As The Highroller said, she's not the kind of artist that's going to pound out hard techno @ 130bpm, but over the course of her set she'll establish a really funky groove and it's about the entire journey as opposed to just dropping banger after banger. I love her evolving sound and it's great to see her continually developing as an artist.

So many TA's in attendance last night! Way too many to name but it was great to see all the usual suspects as well as finally put some faces to the names.

Overall a really good night out and much respect to the platform boys for continuing to bring out this kind of talent, can't wait to see what surprises they have in store for the new year.

Forgot to mention about the sound system. The best I've heard it there for sure. While most clubs play their music too loud, traditionally Cobra has had their sound system at levels of volume that near the point of being ridiculous. Not on Thursday though. It sounded perfect during Magda and Houle's set.

The 2 other times I've seen Magda play very well was in the underground concrete area at DEMF this past year, and at a Circo Loco party in Amsterdam during Queen's Day at about 2 in the afternoon on a cloudy day. Both of these times were very different.

Based on what I heard in Amsterdam (a more relaxed set), I'd love to hear what she'd play at an after party. In fact, I can't think of many DJs I think would play a better after party set than Magda.

Great night out. I'm glad I decided to go.

Houle as usual was great, I don't think I've ever heard a bad set from him. For the first time live I really liked Magda. Every other time I have heard her she was awful which always baffled me because I have heard many a great set from her.
