I suppose the cheap way to fix it is point the focal point of the shot slightly more towards the sky, and turn your e.v. compensation down to -1. That will stop the sky from blowing out.
Got a tripod? You could get two photos of the same thing, one over exposed and one under and then blend them. |
If it was metered to the bright sky, wouldn't that mean losing a lot of detail in the darker foreground? I'm not too good with metering :/

A circular polariser would only make the sky bluer if it was already blue. If the sky was white/grey like in the pic he posted, it should just make it darker, I think? I agree though, it's best used for a sunset, in most cases.
A full ND filter would also mean losing a lot of the details in the dark foreground, which is why I suggested a gradiated ND filter instead, so the light at the front could be keps as it is. I actually have one, but I've never used it So I might be wrong
