I think the only way you can remedy this situation, IGK, is to make sure Melissa gets straight As.

I have faith in you. Do not let me down, dick.

As long as the tone of your emails/communication is kept professional you can't really get in shit. However, depending on what the profs and higher ups are like, they might blacklist you now as a pot stirrer. People don't really like that.

Good luck though Mel, I hope it works out for you.

this is what may happen exactly and i speak from experience- soon after i got my associates in civil engineering i began working in construction inspection. after a few certifications i moved into the testing lab to test for building materials (the lab happened to be at the main headquarters office where all the bosses worked). the guy in charge of the lab was this guy matt, the brains of the company, who was previously stripped of all authority soon as the top bosses hired someone with a business mind- basically a lying bs'er to rake in $$$ for the company. matt, who if it wasnt for him the company wouldn't be where it is right now, felt i guess resentful and angry inside but never showed it bc he had grown up with the president of the company since it was first established...before it was matt who interviewed, hired/fired, gave raises etc. to all employees, but that was all gone once the "bs'er" came into the game...

(just an overview so you can understand the situation i went through which is similar to yours)

...anyways, one afternoon at the end of day when i was already done cleaning up after myself and my equipments machines he came up to me and asked me if i could go into every office and pick up the garbage and put it outside. i stood silent for a moment but my body language spoke for itself and it was obvious i didnt want to do it. he saw it and proceeded to say "you dont have to do it if you dont want to." with that said, i felt more comfortable telling him, hey thats my part of my job. i didnt get a degree to go around picking up after people, especially their garbage. i felt shrunk when he even considered i'd do it. well, he took it better than i expected. all he said was okay thats fine, dont worry. but behind my back he tried to get me fired- of course, there were other things not just this situation. luckily, i had made a great impression on the bosses in several instances so i didnt get fired as requested..instead i got put back into the field. but ever since that day, matt has held a grudge against me and if it would've happened a couple of years earlier when he still had power, i would've been fired on the spot instead of him going to the bosses- as per everyone within the company thats been there for years...

so yea...there will be times where you will get asked to do something ,although its not part of your job, and if you dont do it or put up a fuss about it there will be someone, of higher power, that will try to make it hard for you to advance or whatever. i have heard some pretty messed up stuff happen to engineers that has gotten their licenses revoked...(i'm trying to keep this post as vague as possible, for safety purposes, but i hope you get the picture)

as far as i go though, i have way too much pride to let anyone walk over me like that- i guess thats the spanish within as you mentioned lol. but i could care less if you're the president, i will fight for what i believe.
