I believe this man has all the answers.

That comp had some nice tunes in it but like 30-40% of the tracks still were some commercial crap that were only put there for making it sell better (nothing wrong in that though, after all it's just business...). I mean it just sounds weird to my ears.
Oakenfold has always been within boundaries of different genres, has it ever occured to you that these so-called commercial tracks are put there because he thinks its good music ? why does every slightly commercial/catchy track has to be made or used in the purpose of making money?

I understand if you absolutely hate vocal tracks, but personally i like it a lot.

Thanks very much for the compliment Ian If you are in the UK you ought to come to the next event on 10/02/12

On topic, this discussion is also going on across the internet causing much annoyance to the Armin fans. My comment on Johns forum was

The thing is, people who love 'normal' trance just aren't going to understand John. I have always been intrigued by the man for some reason, even back when I was an Armin fan boy, so I always used to read his monthly diary on this website. He actually used to say things slightly less diplomatic back then (Im talking 2004ish) and would say things like 'many people have noticed I've been dipping more and more into the psy scene, which is because I can't find any normal trance that isn't overblown and cheesey'. I used to be just as passionate about normal trance as I am about the more underground stuff now, and would always think to myself 'just because you don't like it, that doesn't mean it's cheesey'.

As I say, he actually picks his words more carefully these days (although you can never completely cover your back without writing war and peace), but because of things like Facebook, and the fact that the scene really is on its arse now, his messages are reaching more fans of the normal trance scene. His words are bound to upset people who love what folks are calling trance these days because although he isn't slating the likes of Armin, there is always the implication that something is wrong with the alternative to what he is promoting. I think that the backlash and miss-interpretations on the internet are unavoidable, but the good that is coming out of it makes it all worth while. J00F is the only guy I see taking some action and showing some leadership to get what so many people want

I see where you getting at, I enjoyed Never Mind The Bollocks, but i don't think it was the perfect compilation, not because of the vocal tracks, simply because the tracks didn't fit as well together with each other as they could have. Although this rarely happens in a mix.

But on his newest compilation, We Are Planet Perfecto, i have to say he really really got it right! I am going to be talking about that compilation for years, its full of funky fresh trance music! I have to say i enjoyed every single track of it.

That compilation alone, proves to me that Trance is far from dead.

Psytrance? Not really. Juno Reactor is Juno Reactor. If one of their songs sounds like psytrance it's somewhat incidental. Rather, psytrance sounds like Juno Reactor; they were there first

@op - maybe a few tracks. nothing substantial. wouldn't see myself popping into a club for trance unless you add the "psy-" prefix.
