the pyrotechnics and the costumes, and the whole visual thing was pretty cool during the time. not many went after that the way RITM did. they were a unique act in that way.

i'm talking about the live act here, not the productions (enydo's right tho).

I've seen a lot of amazing live PA's over the years that blew minds. RITM was exactly as I described it. Gimmicky obnoxious nonsense that really isn't agreeable to move to. The comparison to crowd was from experience.

have you ever seen ritm? or are you invalidating my opinion based on YouTube videos and mp3s?

they challenge infected mushroom as shittiest electronic act ever.

seriously eh. nah. i never saw them because i was introduced to them in the mid 2000s (the shows looked like all cheese then). the few people i talked to who saw their shows in the 90s, combined with footage and recordings of sets is what i know of the their act prior to that.

i'll take your word for it now. i assumed you were talking out of your ass before. strange that it contradicts other accounts so much, but taking into account what happend to them in 00s it makes sense. still there were probably enough good shows for these kind of stories to get spread. Infected Mushroom were really really good around when they first came out. i had (lost it now) a live set they did in the early 2000s and the music was phenomenal.

seeing infected mushroom at bal en blanc remains the worst electronic thing that I have ever heard in my life. in the middle of a dance party, heavy metal riffs and israeli kids with flags going apeshit. if there is such a thing as a brown noise, that surely must be it.

It wasn't surprising to see Deadmau5 and Above & Beyond on the list, but I can't wrap my head around the fact that The Shamen, a dance act I've never even heard of, is supposed to be more popular than Aphex Twin.

APhex Twin is Industrial with a hint of EDM, so if you'll find him it'll be on MixMags Greatest Industrial Act of all time, not here.

And who the fuck are Rabbit in the Moon? lol

Oh come on now, Aphex Twin is one of the most famous electronic music artists ever.

Except his stuff isn't very dancey (that's not to say he's industrial, that's completely ridiculous statement), and he mostly performs DJ sets. Since this list is completely devoid of DJs (and taste, while we're at it), even Mixmag's favourite Sasha, it's pretty clear why he's not included. Or maybe Mixmag's readers just don't like him...

Above & Beyond?

The only explanation I can think of is that nobody regards Aphex Twin as a "dance act".

Which doesn't bring many votes for a dance act then.

People have failed to notice the 'DJ' in the DJ mag poll for over a decade. Why do you guys think that people suddenly care about the 'dance' in this poll? The other thing is that a lot of people use 'dance music' and 'electronic music' very synonymously.

Because of the result. I personally would have voted for Culture Beat or 2Unlimited too. Could be the voters are young or with "dance" think of "dance" at festivals, which wouldn't be very strange.

O, I think it's better not to mention Scooter.
