They're awesome! These are the top 5 reasons why I bought them:
They're comfy;
They amplify low frequencies, so you can really feel the bass;
They're really comfortable;
They make the bass sound louder, by amplifying the low frequencies;
They make me feel one with Optimus Prime when I listen to brostep.
Oh, and they're also quite cheap in Japan. And I was there.

@Jack:
Have you even invested in a set of (at least) moderately priced cans yet?

Indeed, and I'm pretty sure they're going to ban it in Japan anytime soon. You can smuggle a whole family of Chinese refugees in there
Jokes aside, it never bothered me - my ears are completely inside the cushion, so I'm not sure the distance matters this much.

But these are way cheaper, as far as I know. That's why I bought them!

Actually, if the brand matters this much, I'd say: "What if the person in questions wears their Dre Beats everywhere and genuinely loves it?".
Brand doesn't particularly matter, but Dre Beats are an apposite brand because they're both extremely trendy and massively shit value for money, which simultaneously reconfirms my points about people wearing them simply for show and the lack of any interest or knowledge in sound quality or music that goes with this behaviour. If I see people listening to music on their chunky headphones and obviously being absorbed by that music, then I usually assume good things - sometimes erroneously. In my mind they're listening to some Amon Tobin or something, even if they're actually listening to Adele. It's when they just wear these things pointlessly while never seeming to listen to anything much that I start to question it. It's all well and good saying it's inconvenient to take your headphones off every time you stop listening, but when the amount of non-listening time drastically exceeds the time spent using the fucking things, that argument no longer flies.
kinda like walking around wearing goggles on top of head but never having the intent to go swimming/walking into a dust storm/cutting onions that day hm

I've had these for about 6 years and they're still going strong. Never had any complaints about the sound quality and the only problem I've had with them is having to replace the ear cups which cost about $5. And they're about half the price of BBD.
