Failure of German planning for a winter campaign in Russia and failure to secure the British isles as well as Japan entering the war preemptively is what won WWII. The war would have been a lot different had the Germans not totally fucked themselves.

This is true, but it was Russia who won WWII. Anyone who says different is a nub. Of course it was complicated; but America did nothing except provide LOANS (not even giving weapons or money; actual loans LOL), then bomb Japan.

@Srussel: Time for you to read this (if you havn't before): Why People Hate Americans: WWII

Russia only won because of the mistiming of the German operation on the eastern front. Had they attacked earlier or later they would have reached Moscow with far greater forces and been able to consolidate their attack on the southern Russian fronts and Ukraine.

Because the Germans attacked during a time when they'd do a large part of their fighting in the winter they got bogged down and gave the Russians the time they needed to consolidate and move their production facilities further to the east of the country. The Russians had far more experience and tolerance for fighting in horrible weather and were able to weaken an already broad German offensive, especially by attacking their logistical support network that was also bogged down by the mud and snow.

The ideal situation for Axis victory during the war was for the Germans to attempt an invasion of the British isles as soon as they possibly could. Had they had more success during the Battle of Britain they would have attempted it for sure, but they should have stuck to their guns literally and at least made an effort on attacking the UK. Had they done this there would have been no way for the US to come to the aide of Europe with out the critical island chains off its coast.

While this was occurring the Germans should have had better relations and cooperation with their Japanese allies and urged the Japanese to, instead of expanding west and south towards India, put pressure on the Russians to the north. The Russians and Japanese had a long and bitter history leading up to the Pacific war and the Russians probably would have taken a Japanese threat seriously. Japan should have ignored US pressure and held off attacking Pearl Harbor until they had roused the Russians from their defensive positions in the west pointed towards Europe. Once Japan had done this and Germany had captured or at least crippled the British isles, then Germany should have sprung on Russia as its forces lay in transit or distributed to meet a two front fight.

The variable in all of this though is if the US would get involved despite an attack on its own forces like at Pearl Harbor. The US probably would have declared war on Germany had Germany had any serious intention of invading the islands. That would still leave Japan about its own business for the time being, especially if Germany refused a formal declaration of war against the US.

Oh well, hindsight is 20/20 of course.

We are lucky it turned out the way it did.

Using a substitution method similar to the Navajo, the Comanche code word for tank was "turtle", bomber was "pregnant airplane", machine gun was "sewing machine" and Adolf Hitler became "crazy white man".[6]

If you're saying it was Germany's own weakness, then I already said that's partially correct, but they didn't commit suicide (hehehe), they stretched themselves thin, then were overrun by Russia. The winning is Russia, the inability to stop winning was Germany.

Hindsight is definitely 20/20-- Anything could have happened- I personally don't think the US would have done anything until they were invaded; they were basically a closed country after WWI, and were profiteers during WWII. They literally made a huge profit from the war that demolished the majority of Europe..
