I somehow doubt that if you look at the average modern dj's rider that it has anything other than a place to stay and a proper dj booth.

For example, Angel Moraes came to Philly like 3 years ago, and my buddy was hosting/promoting the party. He had to drive 3 hours to get a certain make and model of Rane Rotary mixer that noone else could rent to him. That kind of thing I expect from a dj rider. I dont think it is out of line to request a certain type of mixer that you love.

I do have a problem with all of the bottles and weird odds and ends in this Aoki rider that just seem like the dj is doing it simply because they can. Why not just book someone else who isnt going to be such a pain in the ass to accomodate?

One of the thigns that I've always disliked about the scene is the ego's that seem to flock to it like a moth to a flame. I'm a humble person so I generally assume that others in the scene are, despite much evidence to the contrary. Its an idealistic side of me that makes me who I am as a person in general.

Don't get me wrong, the majority of "the scene" is filled with wonderfully nice, humble people. Still, there are those that stick out and have an inflated ego, and it often comes from the artists you wouldn't expect to see act that way.

I remember in the Philly scene, many promoters losing thousands of dollars on parties where they booked a dj for say, 10K on a weekend night and only had a couple hundred people show up.

The risk of booking someone big in a town like Philly is stress enough. The entire party the promoter is hoping and praying he breaks even. Then to add all of the rider items into the mix, it just seems insurmountable. So much is on the line. I dont even know how you could have a good time at the party as a promoter when there is so much to be concerned about.

i have read cockier things but he clearly has an ego and presents itself as a show and not as a dj set sucks... 1/8 grass what does really stand for? He is referring to weed or is just a fetish thing?

Only 2 bottles of vodka that is odd i've seen in other perfomance contracts that some artists ask for around 20 bottles of booze (guess that is for the afterparty)

Seeing the Airbase tour diary he doesn't really need any fancy things and i think 90% of djs excluding the super stars ofc just want a decent hotel room and thats it. I fully understand the technical part, you want to make a serious perfomance but all the unecessary stuff some people add is just crazy... i imagine the guy in charge doing the shopping, poor chap...

If i were him i'd just ask for a hotel room near the venue, a taxi or private card at the airport, some bottles of booze and all the technical part 3/4 cdj 2000's preferred and a suitable mixer. I've only asked for a replacement once, since 99% of djs here play with a laptop they only had cdj 100s on the second room (terrace) that was where i was going to play, this cdjs have no loops and i needed them so they got a pair of 400's which is just enough to deliver i just asked kindly if they could change them and was ready to play with them. For me that would be enough even if i'd ever reach a super star status, any other things i'd eventually need can be bought that day, if i am hungry i just order a pizza there's no need for organic food lol.

Check this rider, this is how it should be, djs aren't pop stars.

you don't. You aren't there to party. If you are having a good time, you are a shitty promoter.
But lets be honest, every single promoter out there is using a trust fund or crime proceeds. 1% of promoters are actually legit. And if they are , they are for a reason so the loss would not happen or wouldn't happen on average.

I've worked with promoters, and have been one myself, in various cities that have thrown parties ranging from 100-person clubs to international festivals drawing tens of thousands of people. Most have a great time and are able to party. It's really not that difficult when you have a solid group of people working with you.

Wrong, again. Most promoters are groups of people who pool their own money, barely break even, and use that same money to throw the next party with the same result, repeating the process each time.
