There's a slight flaw (or inconvenience) with the technique he's using here...

Fader start will only *start* his SMPTE signal at the same time as the track he's playing, it won't actually keep it in time... at 7:20, he adjusts the audio deck, but not the SMPTE deck - so the SMPTE deck will be slightly out of time. The more he has to adjust, the further out it'll be...

Of course he could adjust the SMPTE one at the same time, but the only cue he's got of whether it's in sync or not is the time display.

Yes, that's true. Guess you wait for a non-vocal track to pitch up the mix

it's curious but a friend recently went to AvB at Cocorico and he said me "the set was amazing, but the vdj didn't do a good work, some visuals were off" now it kinda makes sense, a 0.5 second difference may be noticeable afterall.

0.5 seconds is more than a beat, so yes it will be noticeable!

well you are right now thinking 120+ bpm means that within 0'5 seconds you have a full beat over...

I saw Armin for a brief second at Extrema Outdoor @ Kalvøya last year, and the music video of the super gay looking guy singing some horrible trance stuff was cheesy as fuck, in addition to being out of sync. Play good tracks, create a good atmosphere, and don't fucking drop the fader and expect the crowd to sing "du du du duu du du dud du d ududuud uduud duuu dudu du duduuduttu" when you play the wankalicious 20fuck remix of Zombie Nation, you fucking hack.
Srsly.
I played an electro remix of Baltimora - Tarzan Boy once, but in my defense it had a pretty cool groove up until the vocals started at the near 3 min mark, and I hadn't listen that far as beatmatching takes no more than 10 seconds, and someone had given me acid as I was going on and I was about 1 hr 15 min into my set, so I was pretty much jamming cd's in, seeing if any tracks would fit..
Some of the stares I got, especially from one of the more old skool dj's who I was warming up from.. Can't fucking buy that shit for money!! It was an hilarious night, and I had to go back two times (not including 1st time on the way to my friends place) to Deli de Luca get food. It was such an interesting concept of how bland yet somehwat satisfying half-processesed food could be. I don't know..

I just don't think any video Armin could come up with would excuse him from destroying trance the way he has by buying up any label that has 'popped' up, and forcing artistic guidelines upon them, intentionally or not. He used to play pretty kickass tribal stuff. Now it's all aah's and ooh's and pads up your ass to make you feel like youre on a cloud while you see an electro bass from 2009 gently floating by. It's bullshit.
It's horse shit.
It's traaaaaaance.
